DVX footage on the computer...

Ok i just got my DVX100A last week and put the footage on the computer for the first time today. While i was uploading it i noticed it looked a lot different than on the camera's LCD and view finder. I also have a VX and know that the footage always looks a bit different once it is loaded onto the computer. But the DVX footage looks much different. It looks very dark and of less quality. Is this normal or am I doing something wrong?

The LCD viewfinder is a LOT brighter than the actual image you're recording.

If you don't have a production/field monitor or a laptop with DV Rack to check the image while shooting, I'd suggest doing some experimentation with the LCD's brightness/contrast/color controls in the menu.

I've got mine set with each of the controls lowered to about 2 bars. The LCD's image is then pretty close to what I am actually recording. But cameras may differ, so do some testing.

i understand the lcd brightness issue, but if you view you footage on a tv screen it will look much brighter and more contrasted than on the computer monitor.

During my first dvx editing (shot in cine gamma) i was sure i underexposed or bad lit the set since on my editing software all looked flat and darkish. but when i watched the final result on tv screen the contrasts and lights came out.

computer screen can't provide the same brightness and light depth of a tv.
Try to watch your footage on tv (with well balanced bright/contr/sat settings).

and yes! learn to get used to the zebra pattern! especially in cine mode.
