Ok, so I've had no issues at all with my camera (DVX100B) from the time I purchased it...until now. And it just so happened to start giving me troubles coincidentally when I arrived in Japan for a job. I purposely carried the camera on with me in fear of it getting crushed by other luggage during the flight. I even put myself in discomfort to carry the camera bag on my lap the entire flight.
I arrive in japan and immediately start filming. The first night I'm there I have no issues at all. Everything is going great. I'm just excited to be in another country.
Second day-During filming I get the error message "Auto Off T_Reel Lock"....Great. I bust open the user manual to see that the message appears when the tape reel snaps. So I pull the tape out and inspect it, no issues. The tape is fine. I pop it back in and start filming again. Two minutes later, I get the same message and the camera shuts off. At this point I have no choice but to keep trying to get the camera to record. I finally get it to start recording again, and I let it roll til the tape is finished, just to be sure that I get the footage I need. Well, at least what was left of that day. I was hired to film for 9 days in japan and this happens halfway through day 1 (Not including the arriving day).
I get back to the hotel and check the forums to see if anyone else has encountered the same problem, but I only see a couple, and both lead me the same direction...which is, the camera is faulty and needs to be replaced/fixed. At this point I have no choice but to keep pushing forward. I make it through the trip, filming non stop each day. Every so often I would get the message, but then after turning the camera off and then back on, I would be able to continue recording with no issues at all.
I'm now back home and trying to import the footage into FCP 6 I used a seperate capture camera to import all the footage with. After importing the first tape I went to watch through the clips and noticed the speed is all off. It's seems as if its playing back with a 25-30% speed increase. And not only that, when I make in/out points to bring into the sequence, they dont match once they are dropped in.
Also, I shot everything in 24pA, but now everything is saying its 29.97. I set everything to capture and edit with 24pA and now it's saying the footage is 30p??? I don't get it? What's more confusing is the fact that I imported the footage for a second time to see if I could skip past the breaks just in case that was causing the change. It seemed ok, but as soon as I reached the end of the tape, the speedy footage was back again.
Sorry for such a lenghty post. I'm beyond frustrated right now.
Basically what I'm looking to know is:
1. Why would the footage suddenly change from 24p to 30p? Especially since the capture and sequence settings didn't get touched during the import
2. What caused my DVX to start throwing the T_Reel Lock message?
I'm sending my dvx in this week to be serviced, it's still under warranty, so at least it wont cost me anything to fix it.
