DVX Focal Length

Hello Techies. Well, hopefully this is a silly question that is explained in the DVX manual and someone can answer this quickly. What is the focal length of the DVX100? Meaning, how close can I get an object, let's say, a human face while in 24p? There is a certain distance at which the lens will not be able to focus past. Anyone have this measurement? If I am not wording this right, you may correct me as well. Just running into some focus problems while attempting Extreme close-ups in a shot.

Re: DVX Focal Length

M.O.D. (minimum object distance) on the DVX is about 1 meter. That means that at full telephoto, focused as close as possible, at maximum open aperture, the closest you can get (and still be in focus) is about 3' or so. If you stop down the lens, you can get closer, and if you zoom out, you can get closer still -- fully zoomed out, you can get down to the surface of the lens.

The new DVX100A improves on M.O.D., lowering it to .6 meters (around 2 feet).

Re: DVX Focal Length

not really. different prism and the macro scale has changed a little. New lens is a little better at color and flare control.

Re: DVX Focal Length

With the change in minimum object distance, I don't know that the old focus chart will prove to still be accurate. Maybe at the longer end of the scale, but maybe not at the shorter end...
