Here is a teaser trailer for an ultra-lowbudget feature shot with the original DVX. Our budgetary limitations are definitely on display, but the camera never let us down, not even after being strapped to a car and driven at 85 mph, dropped and drenched in blood.

Enjoy the trailer and let me know what you think. Here are multiple formats to make it easier on everybody...

SEX MACHINE TEASER (Windows Media, Large 24 MB)
SEX MACHINE TEASER (Windows Media, Medium 17 MB)

QUICKTIME:
SEX MACHINE TEASER (Quicktime Large - 12 MB)
SEX MACHINE TEASER (Quicktime Medium - 6 MB)
SEX MACHINE TEASER (Quicktime Small - 2 MB)

That was excellent. Some really nice shots and footage. Lighting, colors, locations. It was all perfect! The only problem was the bit of dialogue in the trailer. It was too quiet. Only a few words spoken in the entire trailer and you can't hear them. D'oh!

You're in Austin? I lived there about 8-10 years ago. Use to work at KVC-tv13 and then moved over to the Fox affiliate (ch 7). I made a feature length mockumentary in Austin and the band, featured in the movie, was called SEX MACHINE. It's a great name! Perfect for a movie.

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, I am still waiting to get our sound file from the guy whos doing our sound. But I had to get this ready for something yesterday and thought I would go ahead and post it temporarily until i can get that part fixed.

I must agree, that was quite a good looking trailer/footage. Everything looked very well thought out and planned for being a super low budget flick. That's the key in getting the most bang for your buck isn't it? To spend little but make it look great. Good job on it I think. It serves its purpose as a trailer, I'd like to see the whole thing. :) Just out of curiosity 2 questiosn 1)how long is the whole thing and 2)if you're ok with disclosing, around what was your budget running for this feature?
Only reason I ask is because we're currently in pre-prod for our first super low budget feature and I'm wondering what other indie filmmers end up spending roughly on their projects. Anyways, Keep it up and hope to see you post more on here.

citycyclone - The final edit isn't finished yet, but it won't run longer than 90 minutes. Right now it is about two hours so I have a lot of work left to do.

This was a very low-budget shoot, but I just got in trouble for posting the amount so I have edited the post. That doesn't include the camera or gear we already had. Also everybody worked for free. So that budget was for food, effects, location rentals, rental of a light package and doorway dolly.

In all honestly the story is way too ambitious for that budget but we didn't know any better going into it. We just knew it was time to quit talking about making a movie and actually make one instead.

matt s. - thanks!

imgentertainment - thanks. we edited in Final Cut Pro. There are only a few scenes that have been color corrected so far (the yellowish shots of the goons walking). Everything else was done in camera. At the end we will go through and touch up the whole thing, but mainly it was done through lighting & gels.

yep

...
how much time did you guys invest in this from pre to post?

This has cult film written all over it. I'm liking what I see so far. It definately has a low-budget vibe going on but that's okay; the black and white kills it for me everytime unless it's Schindlers List or Young Frankenstein however.

Looks fun and congrats on actually making one!

Thats very professional looking there. At that was the DVX100 and not the A huh? I want the DVX100a's price to go down but looks like I will have to keep saving!

Very cool man... Looks real good for this kind of movie. I like the slow dolly shots mixed with the action.
This is just a small thing, but the glowing green liquid inside the seringe (spelling?) looks great.

Are you putting the final movie on DVD or online or what? Will there be any way to see it in it's entirety.

John_Hudson- Thanks for the kind comments. That sequence may or may not be in black and white by the time we are finished. It's part of a flashback that needs to have a much different look that what precedes it. That was actually shot with a cheap-ass Sony digital still camera and then we pulled the color out in photoshop .

skettalee - yeah, it was the original, but I wish we had had a little more exposure stops that we would have had with the A. but I seriously have no complaints about the cam. I love it in fact.

drummerboy678 - Yeah, it will be on DVD. Glowing green liquid is our Re-Animator homage. We even used the liquid that is in glowsticks just like they did for that movie. This movie definitely wears its influences on its sleeve. But this is our first time out and we had to get it out of our system.

I have to give credit to our D.P. ... Shogo! This movie would not have the production value it has if it were not for him. Post production filters cannot replace a good D.P.

The budget must not have been too low if you were able to license a track from Yes....er or maybe you're just borrowing. (wink wink nudge nudge). Seriously though, I like what I see. Did you have to pay to use the strip club and/or bowling alley? I'm reeled in, so let's see the whole movie!

Yeah, we won't be using the Yes track in the actual movie or the "real" trailer that will be coming up soon. As far as the bowling alley and the strip joint, yeah... I paid.
