I am searching for DVX-100A equivalencies to 35mm lenses. I know that wide open the DVX resembles a 32.5mm lens. But what Z mark or setting on the zoom ring would a 50mm lens be? A 75mm? Etc. Please help!
I seem to recall that someone here once posted a link to a DVX zoom number (using the DVX LCD zoom readout) to 35mm focal length equivalent chart.
Using the Panavision converter, I made a chart showing the equivalents between 35mm still lenses, 35 cine lenses, and the DVX's zoom ring numbers, but I don't know how accurate it is, since Panasonic's figures for the DVX lens (32.5-325 35mm still lens equivalent) didn't quite match the figures the Panavision converter gave me (30-300 35mm still equivalent), though it's close.
Using the Panavision converter to compare the DVX to 4:3 cine format, you get about 19-190mm.
You can specify increments on the converter and thus determine the 35mm still and cine equivalents of the various focal lengths marked on the DVX zoom.
Sure. Here's the chart I compiled using the Panavision New Zealand focal length converter. Bear in mind that the converter's figures for the 35mm still lens equivalent to the DVX's focal range differ slightly from those cited in the DVX specs by Panasonic (32.5-325mm on the Panasonic specs vs. 30-300 on the converter).
Also, when making my chart, I didn't list the DVX zoom read-out numbers, but rather only the zoom ring markings (it should be fairly easy to fill in the blanks if you so choose -- just determine the LCD zoom readout for each of the focal lengths marked on the DVX lens). In instances where a standard 35mm focal length (e.g. 50mm) didn't correspond to an DVX zoom marking, I've listed the DVX equivalent (e.g. 50mm cine lens= 12mm on the DVX lens).
Here's a link to a previous discussion of this subject on the DVX boards, which includes several similar, more comprehensive focal length equivalent charts, incorporating the DVX zoom readout numbers:
