DVX-Emocore Music vid - Never Bled

Enjoyed the song and visually everything looked great. Liked the jittery-cam and the low angle dolly action. A little too dark at some points but the orange night-time scenes looked excellent. One thing that bothered me before the song slowed down (2 min. in) was that maybe a couple more different angles were needed. You had Low Dolly through grass...Extreme Close Up....Low Dolly Through Grass....Extreme Close Up. Got a little bored. I was dying for a Long Shot of the band in the field! A nice wide-angle from far away so that the cut to ECU would be even more jarring. Two angles can't sustain your first two minutes. Otherwise very professionally looking and technically sound. Well done.

Video looks great. How'd you achieve the shakiness? That effect works to great response. Can't find any info on the band on the web, maybe you could lead me to their website?

You kids, with your long hair and devil music! :)

Great looking video. Serves its purpose well. I'm sure the band will love it!

nice vid

nice vid

Hey, pretty good video. The editing is tight (tight as in not loosely executed, but could be tight as in cool, too) and the camera angles/movement/etc. was well done. I liked the way the overcast sky contrasted with the green grass, and the band in between. Really nice work. I do have a few suggestions for the future, though, if you want any.

It was clear that the performance part of the video was the main part, and that's cool because it was really well shot. It's not so much that the "other," story part of the video didn't show up enough, but that it showed up kind of late in the video, in my opinion. If you distributed that part of the video a little more evenly, it might have seemed a little less "tacked-on," but that's just nit-picking, really.

The one thing that I thought could have really taken this video from good to great would have been a little more color-correction, especially upping the contrast and desaturating just a tad. In my personal opinion, some kind of washed out yellowish color scheme might have looked nice, too, but whatever.

Hey, it was a job well done, especially considering the problems and time restraints you had during shooting. Keep it up.

I can not listen to that music, it's disgusting. I don't know how people can take it...

ahhhwww the emo kids are misunderstood and angry, how tragic. *yawns and rolls eyes*

Saying that, I can see how making a decent music video for the song would be tough...

What you created was shot proffesionally but ultimately worthless and trite. The shots look good enough and there is enough cuts to hold the audiences attention but what was the point? Why was this video created? if it was to make money, or practice cinematography then I can see where you are coming from, but if not... what are you doing?

these videos are a dime a dozen, they look nice, but give nothing to the music video world.

You have a nice eye for composition and color but need to hone the other aspects of putting together a project: ideas, story, purpose, these sorts of things.

I will probably be attacked viciously for posting my thoughts on this music video, but I attempted to be constructive in my criticism and thought saying what I really thought was a lot better than fluffing or not posting at all.

good luck on your next project.

Interesting...Never heard the Tazmanianian Devil sing before! It's not my style of music, but hell when I was a kid, Led Zep was pumpin out stuff which all the old timers were quick to point out was not music, just a bunch of screaming and yelling crap. So who knows. About halfway through the song sounds almost normal to my TRAINED ears. I do think more could have been done lightingwise on the interior shots where Taz is yelling in that poor guys ear.

is somebody getting down w/ the wigger (Adobe After Effects) on this thing? or were you really just shaking the camera? how so?

THE GOOD:
Loved the shots, edit, and color. Very crisp and the shaking was great. I understood why it was done when it was done. I also understand why the "story" aspect came in when it did. It followed the songs path.

THE BAD:
Well, this is art so there's really no bad here but I'll dish it anyway.
The guy trying to sound like the devil is horrible and destroyed the song. If he'd just tone it down they'd actually have a good chance of getting a deal, perhaps a demo deal. My back ground is in music production so I have a decent feel for that type of stuff.

Anyway, keep up the good work!

Oh, what cam was used for this and how'd ya do the shake?

I think music is beside the point here...
I really liked your shallow dof at certain guitar close ups and the tracking shot in the grass, very pretty! Scenery is very pretty, the skies in the far back are dynamic and the grass seems so finely green. Tremors contributed to the overall mood of the picture. Roahhhrr!

There's saying what you think, then there's trying to be tactful in how you say it. I'd like to think that there are better & more constructive ways on how to deliver a message other than using words like "disgusting", "worthless and trite", etc. I know the people I've learned the most from in the past were the ones who knew how to build you up while at the same time telling you what you can do better .... not make you feel like a piece of crap for trying.

Just my two cents on the above comment.

Here's a newsflash for the band

86 the dude in the black t-shirt that does nothing but scream and make the dude in the white shirt the new front man. No really. No, serious. No, I'm not kidding. This band is pretty cool until that banshee opens his trap. What a waste of music. Uccckkk.

Since it isn't about the music I will say I did like the Video though; good job; you did do them proud. I agree with Cody that it is not 'OMG' but just another video in the mix. Is that bad? No. Is it epic? No. Cody is onto something and I appreciate his willingness to say exactly what is on his mind; cause if anyone thinks he is being harsh wait until Variety or the Hollywood Reporter reviews your works on day.

I love guitar oriented rock but that "Roaaaaaarrrrgggrroowwwlllll" vocal style is laughable. Too bad; a waste of the other band members talents I think.

John i saw your original post! Ruthless! hah

I like the low dutch shots from the grass. Good work on the video. I think the band is dressed too preppy for that kind of music. Maybe that's the intention, but preppy kids playing metal screams garage band to me. This style has been done before and you do it pretty well. Would like to see something different, perhaps something that plays against the cliche.

Can't understand the words. Maybe you should do a little karaoke track subtitle for the video. Something like. "Whahdohghwhhasdkadfkhjadshfkadsh" That would be sweet.

Hey guys ... thanks for all the responses. Let me try to respond just a little bit:

Crazyczech - yes, good idea. I have some long shots, but thought they were too "lonely" but I agree - having one or two in will open it up and reduce claustrophobia.

Kevin - Shakiness is just knowing the song really well, and then small tight shakes while shooting. It's always more effective when shutter is at 250 or higher.

Ronald Raven (awesome name) - yeah, I pumped up some of the color and actually did add a bit off yellow in CC. I wanted is a bit warmer, but still overcasty/emo-tional. Lemme look again, and maybe a little more yellow would be appropriate.

Cody - cody, cody, cody. Love ya man! But why are you so angry? Thank god you decided to work with video/film and not as a high school guidance counselor!
Seriously though. I'm not sure you're the right person to decide the value of the video (worthless and trite?), but thanks for you opinion! Although, there were no take-aways from your post. You didn't mention anything specific or reference anything in particular. It was just a campaign of negativity. Hit me with something constructive brutha :)

Death - wigger? You're killin me!!! No AE, just camera work.

John - Thanks man. LOL...yeah, it's a unique style of music. Wait until you hear what kids will be listening to 10 years from now! Seriously , thanks. The band is diggin it ... it's their first music video.

Isaac - Word. I keep looking for opportunities (read: time, money, and band cooperation) to get a little more creative. stay tuned :-D

*Oh, and the band is "Of Blessings And Burdens" and are based out of Massachusettes*

Thanks again guys ... always looking to improve my stuff. Hoping to quit my lame day job someday!

L O L
