Um, i couldn't see or hear much of anything. your compression was aweful. the picture was too small, and the file size was too big for any slow-connected user to download in any sort of reasonable time for what was displayed.
I hate to be harsh, but man... that whole experiance BLEW.
What are you using for a compression program? Avid Xpress Pro has a really nice set of templates that will give you pretty good results and low file size for Windows Media 8 & 9. I've been cranking out 1-2 minute pieces that come up around 2-3 mb, and you can see the whole picture, text and all.
I'd love to see it with some better compression! : )
I was able to see it pretty quickly ... download time wasn't an issue here.
What struck me most ... or at least first, was what I saw last! If these are clothes for men women & CHILDREN then why is the advert displaying 4 oiled up hotties? It created a big disconnect in my mind.
Production-wise, it's hard to evaluate b/c of the compression. The quality was a bit compromised ... so I though that I was seeing "seems" in the overlay editing. It was a bit staccato ... but I really like the concept! Can you smooth out the walking girl ... one continous walk versus jagged cuts?
I just watched it again and despite what the other guy's are saying , the comm. plays perfectly fine on my connection, I hadn't read the part about the fashion for children, and would definetly agree than the 4 hotties doesn't play up the family aspect of the store. All in all I can tell you I've seen 10 times worse compression from others and the same goes for content your commercial looks like a commercial. Your commercial play's up the urban feel of what I think the store is selling, I agree with smoothing out the walk, and you should get a photo that's less provocative, or drop the children, 4 girls doesn't equal a guy a girl and some kids.
You know, it wasn't that bad. The compression is not great but I've seen worse. It played perfectly smooth. A few suggestions:
1. Take out that preview thing in the beginning. I don't know, to me it just didn't fit. I know you're trying to be different but I see it wasn't necessary.
2. Maybe add a little music. It needs something other than those voices to complement the video. The voices are a bit creepy I think.
Other than that, it wasn't bad. Like I said I've seen worst ****. Keep it up man!

First things first though.
Inc – nice job man loved the lighting (I know its daylight, but well caught that man (unless it was added later then strike that) framing very tasty. concept nice and well executed (possible to drop those couple of shakes?? just to slicken)
Keep trying new techniques and shooting, you’ve got the right idea.
Clip played fine on my machine – you guys running a 386???
Ok the rant.
I’m sick of seeing grabs of potatoes bobbing in boiling water and the sun twinkling off perfect snowdrops here at DVX as many other projects sink further down without viewers. Hello the DVX is a VIDEO CAMERA not a STILLS (unless your getting rid of old porno’s on Ebay) There are much cheaper options. I know that this is a grabs section (and no work even a grab is less worthy art than any other submission) but can’t we marvel as a community at people who actually get out and shoot the moving image?
Incmedia asked for feedback on his work, not the compression. He asked our opinion on work that he’s thought through, shot and edited.
Any posting on this board to add another string to the DVX’s bow of better and better films, shorts, promos, corporate and personal. Should be taken seriously for the time and effort taken let alone the ability to find cheap hosting, yet still no-one will discuss your work and be honest.
I see many post’s including my own work (posted here, search back and slag off if you want. Any criticism OF THE WORK is welcome and much more useful than not posting an opinion (though my work is ****!)
I just feel that (and this is what everyone will hate me for saying but bollocks) DVX doesn’t feel like the community it should be. Support your local filmmaker man.
And for one I will not be barked away or run off in a strop. I’m here to stay.
J.P. :-X
P.S. don’t look for any bobbing potatoes they don’t exist, artistic license.
I agree with jp; I see more ranting about the display than the actual product here. I had zero issues downloading and watching; check your updates and processor speed and dont blamne it on inc. It took me 22 seconds to download and it look 'acceptable' on my monitor.
Now onto the view:
Wheres the letterbox? It was white? ???
I liked the effect you ised. It works well' although the 'Men women and children' soundbite is missing the men and children. Anyway, not bad, not great. Thanks for sharing
Streamed great after a <1 minute buffer over my broadband to 802.11g laptop. A bit dark in the compression, but no jaggies or other compression-typical problems.
I dug the reverse photography with the cars and the girl staggered throughout! Nice composition here.
I'll echo the "family-themed-clothing" comments above. Speaking as a parent who (for the time being) controls my children's wardrobe, the model shot at the end of the piece doesn't fit with your demographic (not the kids anyway!).
I like A&F - I'll wear the stuff all day, but I don't necessarily want my pre-teens to latch onto the racy images they push.
Good stuff - keep posting moving images my brother! Oh, one other thing. I'd put any title cards for the production company in black prior to the spot. I watched it twice (thank you Windows Media Player!) before I figured out that it wasn't really part of your spot. Or was it?
I really appreciate all of the feed back. This community and the feedback is how we grow as film makers. Everything I have learned has been from this site and you guys are helping me learn more. And when you need an opinion on your work I'll do the same for you.
Hey, if I every made it to the big screen my directors hat will read (DVX User) 8)
Post in quicktime lose the white bars as you can see at the top all the footage is not covered over all good commerical I would of gotten an three sec ass shot.
Hey man, I'll be the first to give you props for the extreme amount of rotoscoping that went into this. It looks really seemless. The only thing that gave it away was her left shoulder (right sided of the screen) dissapears for just a second when she is up close to the camera. However, it is a very well thought out video and I congratulate you on your well concieved and carried out plan. By the way, what's all this about compression? I thought it looked great. I could read all of the text, it downloaded in about 7 sec and the audio wasn't even all tingy like most things I hear on the web.
