DVX "darkness" question

I have viewed many, many stills, videos, composites, etc. that have been shot with the DVX100. Many look really, really good but I have noticed one consistent element...most of these images tend to be a bit "grey" or "dark"...especially in the colors. Is this an accurate observation of the DVX100? I know lighting is critical, but does the "film look" this camera provides necessitate a darker color pallet?

Thanks,

Its all about settings. Things can look very bright and saturated with light and an open iris. Things don't always look dark, it's just how you use the camera...
