Dvx cold weather

hey guys,
shooting outdoors this week with about 3 feet of snow on the ground and 20oF weather. is this wise to bring my DVX out into these conditions? or will it get wrecked.

I've shot in cold weather with my dvx and didn't have a problem. I would just say, if it snows or rains, keep the camera dry. I would say to pick up a rain cover if there's snow on the ground already, because the wind can pick it up and throw it at you and the camera.

I'm pretty sure this would work on the DVX:

I picked up one at B&H for like $100, but it didn't have a cover to use the LCD.

yeh its fine ...people have worked with it in brutal negetive degrees already. it also doesnt suffer from the focus ring problem that the hmc150/hpx170 is plagued with.

However if you dont transfer it properly from outdoors to indoors it can cause condensation inside the lens and in the camera. So when taking the dvx from the cold to inside...put it in a ziplock bag with silica gels and put it in your camera bag, bring it inside and allow the camera to aclimatize for couple hrs. then take it out.

U may not need to put it in the ziplock and just put it in the camera bag with the silica gels....but ive seen the other users here do that.

yea, thanks for that tip, i was wondering how to do that, last time i came inside the inside of the lens was foggy for like 2 hours, and i was like real worried. it went away, but stilll. silica gels where do ya get those?

and that bag is a little out of my price range right now.... but it looks sick.

silica gel packettes are those little packettes of "crystals" that come in packaging material. they exract mositure from the air. I keep some in my camera bag at all times. I really dunno where u can get them i usually just use the ones i get from packages i buy. they come in shoe boxes alot and well most any package. maybe u can go to ur local shoe store and ask for a couple.
