dvx + chroma-key + MIRROR/METALS ?

Hello,

Ok, so, Policar gave me some great tips on using the dvx and chroma ( on my previous post: dvx + chroma-key ), but I got a challenge, something that is puzzling me.

Can I shoot a character standing in front of a mirror, and then key out the blue on the mirror? What about a metal pipe?

Hope I'm not doomed, one week, one week.

I am assuming that your mirror would be reflecting a chroma key background? If this is the case, then I see no reason that you shouldn't be able to treat this just as any other chroma-keyed shot. The same rules apply, good and even illumination of the background will be necessary and use a garbage matte in post to reduce the work load.

Now for a metal pole, this might be more difficult, but if it is reflective enough and exhibits a dominant single channel color, then it too should work.

As always, test everything in advance to be certain that it will all work as you intend. Its no fun to show up on set to discover a problem that can't be easily solved.

You're probably going to have to roto the pole.

As long as the mirror only reflects or screen and what you want to see (i.e. actor) then it's fine. Just note that you'll have to shoot plates accordingly and comp that section differently from the other section of the scene (assuming the screen is visible elsewhere)
