I now have the capability of adding a lot more gadgets and do-dads to the outter cage while at the same time, somewhat protecting my camera just a little bit more.

Ive been looking for awhile on the forum and couldnt really find any 'cages', except for some of the RED equipment...has anyone else done something like this?

Ps. I might also win the ugliest camera award.

very nice! Yeah, I can only weld steel so it does put a damper on things. But, my camera is also always on a tripod. How large, lack of a better word, is that 80/20? it looks much larger than the steel tubing I used, which was apprx 1/2"

There's SO much stuff at 80/20...it's going to take a year to figure out what I need. So far, the smallest I see is 1"....but it's really light!

I just went on their page and looked at the T-slotted framing.. they compare their aluminum to welded steel (in "their" pricing idea). First, they down talk steel fabrication.. which I find to be a true art form, that, and there is hardly any limits to what you can build. Second, if you look at their pricing at the bottom.. the only reason they say theres is so much cheaper is due to how they price 'labor'. For some reason, they throw on 125 bucks just for labor (i have no clue where they get that figure unless you have to take it somewhere to be welded).

SO really... purchasing steel is MUCH cheaper

Ps. i only spent 40 bucks on the steel for frame.

But yes, of course, the weight thing... which I will agree with you. A definite bonus if your going hand held.

Easom, Cinevate and Redrock Micro all have cages. The Easom looks to be the fullest iteration of the cage itself.

I noticed your spacing for your rods was nowhere near the standard width for 15mm rods. That may create problems further down the line.

the reason why I spaced them out was due to the size of the u-joints I used, but it also seemed to work better for clamping the letus down. PS. those are also steel rods. The only problem I can see is that I wont be able to purchase do-dads designed for the 15mm rods. But, I dont really see that as a problem because I have not purchased these things. Unless your talking about some other issue im not seeing.

And i do realize, a lot of the rigs on here are designed to be universal and fit together; when I change my camera, i have to cut, trim, weld, blah to fit it...and it does take time, but also saves money.

none the less, I agree, I would love to eventually have a standard rail system... and be able to take a part and rebuild without takign a day out before hand.

Cage and gadgets.

Cage and gadgets.

Hey Rodney thanks for the mention. I love searching for my name. Especially on Google! lol. Hey I like this cage. Very utilitarian. I actually like the bulkyness and square design.. It definitely has a tough look. Here are a couple pics of my cage setup. Of course my favorite DVX setup photo. If you ever want to size down let me know. Great work! Interesting cage you got there. How much are you selling them?

80/20 has a variety of sizes. The smallest is NOT 1 inch per side.

I am using the Series 25 which is 25 mm per side.
And then it matches up with the 50 mm, 75 mm and 100 mm per side -
not all square. - check it out!

the best deals they have are on eBay.

And the joining plates are the expensive part.

Wow! I haven't seen this for a while. MadHMC150, Thanks for asking. Yes, the website has undergone some changes over the past few months. We have a new cage design and it's focused more on the DSLR / HDSLR cameras. We've been testing the website. It's still in Beta and we have'nt advertised anywhere yet but we're about to. Here's a look at our 'Halo' Cage
