DVX Battery

Since I have a bunch of DVX100 batteries laying around, I was wondering if the DVX100 battery works with the DVX200..it seems like it will..

Yes, and they're bigger, and they have the push-button light-up battery meter graph on them...

This battery thing is ... a thing. I don't know the whole story but I have a few pieces that I can put together. First, as adolgin said, I believe the batteries to be electronically compatible -- because I have an HC-X1000, and it can use both batteries. It fits both.

From that, I deduce that the difference is primarily in the notches in the plastic case. If someone wanted to try with a cheap battery, they could try cutting out notches to match the DVX200 battery's notches. At that point I would presume that it would fit and perhaps work.

But that's when you get to the sketchy part -- is there a reason they changed the battery design? Is it a profit move, or a technology move, or dare I say it, a lawsuit move? Because there are buttloads, truckloads of generic batteries out there (heck, Jarred here at DVXUser used to sell DVX-compatible batteries). And there's lots of news out there of batteries behaving badly, whether it's from the 787 Dreamliner to the hoverboards to Samsung's Note 7. So if I was a manufacturer would I take steps to make sure that only genuine, authorized batteries would work with my camera? Probably. At least, that's what I'd bet the lawyers would advise them.

So, no, as of now, the original DVX100 batteries will not work in a DVX200. It's possible that they might if you cut notches in the case to match the notches in a DVX200 battery, but doing so would clearly be defeating the manufacturer's intent so, if anything goes wrong, it's on you of course. That might get it to fit, but I don't know if a notched DVX100 battery would work or if there's electronic communication between the DVX200 and its battery that would prevent that from working.
