how do I record back to dv from the computer?

What NLE are you using?
Most have a "Print to tape" function.
Firewire the same way you originally loaded the footage....

I'm past that, I wanna know how to start recording.
I can get the dvx to regonize and play back on the lcd... BUT HOW DO I RECORD?

Your response only addresses the second half of Sirius_Doggy's question. What NLE (editing program) are you using?

Camera must be in VCR mode. Tape must not be protected (check the tab on the back of the tape). Check SP/LP settings and audio 32/48KHz.

Which REC button are you using? You have to use the "VTR REC" button combo on the top of the unit. One is Red and the other is Grey. Try that out and see if it works.
