DVX+Andromeda modification (4:4:4 HD) test

story made about no sense to me, perhaps im too young to understand the cd she picked up? As for the colours, some scenes were very nice, others were decent. It seems the darker the scenes, the more grainish material showed up. (as that is how dv is, but still) the outside scenes looked great.

thewho....this isn't DV, this is uncompressed HD out of the DVX...go to reel stream and read up on it.

Well yes, i know that. I just refered to it default as DV cause the DVX produced it. hehe. sorry about that bro. Well then technically, all the more reason there shouldent be that fuzzyness?

Man the color reproduction is AMAZING. I had no idea footage like this could be taken from a DVX. And that one long shot of the house is amazing! Did you use any reflectors for that shot? It looks perfectly balanced. No over exposure apparent and the sky is nice and blue. Incredible. I guess once I can upgrade to HD the question becomes...4:4:4 or more slow-mo?

What were the light levels on that repeating greenish feet-walking shot? That did indeed look really noisy.

But the shots with proper light look fantastic, like her walking out of the house, and the colors in the red room, particularly her skin tones-- really great.

The blacks look bright to me... but I think that's an h.264 playing-back-on-PC issue that I (and many other people) have had.

You should post some stills of the full res shots. After having the Reel-Stream for a bit, how do you feel about it compared to what you've seen of the HVX? Happy with it? Would you make the same choice again right now?

For sure. I really dig the performance of the Andromeda as far as having waaay more options in post. But for anyone else it depends on how and where you shoot.

Sorry about this piece having no story, it is really just a random assembly of shots and sounds.

The green shoes are grainy, yes, it was very low light and I curved out the mids on that shot and then sharpened to bring out the grain. I could have easily worked it to get no noise at all, it was just a personal pref.

In fact we can see the shot with normal color correction in the montage you showed. We can see prefectly that the grain ins intentional (and if you look at it, you'll see it looks like post production noise... ).

Everything looks awesome. Just like those films shot in the 80's that we're so found of...

Seems really nice. The colors (especially outside) and clarity were great. I'm sorry if this sounds ignorant, but these are the primary advantages of Andromeda, right? Better color space, resolution and visual clarity?

If you don't mind, what is your workflow like? You record uncompressed, edit uncompressed and then output that at 720x480? Just curious as this is rather intriguing and it seems like more and more people are going with Andromeda.

Hold that question --- I'm going to get someone (or myself) to publish an example workflow for Andromeda. This is the most asked question. Everyone that uses it has a slightly different workflow, but I think a couple of published examples from start to finish would be very helpful. I'll get back to you on that.

I agree. The colors on this are amazing. I always forget about the Andromeda when considering HD cameras, but every so often footage like this comes out and blows me away. I'm also interested in hearing more about your workflow. Thanks for the post.
