DVX 60i footage appearing as 29.97fps when captured by Prem.Pro

I'm trying to capture a small perfume vial breaking as it hits the floor. I have shot all my footage with progessive options off at 60i I presume (dvx-100b). I imported the footage into a 24p timeline in Premiere Pro 2, and I just didn't have enough frames for the shot to look good. I looked at the Interpret Footage dialog, and the file's framerate was 29.97. I have tried shooting in 60i numerous times today, yet after being captured with premiere's capture tool, they all think they are 30fps.

I have been scouring message boards on adobe and here and I am about to tear my hair out.

Please tell my I am just making a noob mistake, and it's easily fixed.

60i is 29.97...it's 60 interlaced fields, combined to make 30 frames. For slow motion you de-interlace the footage, then drop it into your 23.976 timeline and slow it down 40%. For best results use a shutter of 1/120. Premiere isn't the best application for smooth slow-mo, After Effects will give excellent results.

Well, unfortunately I already did that. Thanks for the correction though.

I shot it with the shutter at 1/250, and it just isn't fast enough to shoot glass breaking. Is there anything else I can do to get the kind of shot that I want? I've shot the scene 4 times, and it always goes like this:

Frame 1: Vial in mid air
Frame 2: Vial is just broken
Frame 3: Vial is more broken

After that the glass shards arent moving so fast so it isn't so much of a problem. Am I pretty much screwed?

60i isn't slow enough to film that kind of scene, no matter the shutterspeed. You'll need a camera that shoots 120 fps or more.
