DVX-200 Price

yer, this one has it at a lot less in the US

But I think this one is to low, it's hard to know why they would bother.

That are around 6.000 USD, Vat included. That's a bit tough. At that price this camera has to deliver perfectly. But I suppose that price is mere speculation.

If you look lower on the CVP link, it has a price of $5260.99 US. You wouldn't be paying the VAT if you were importing it from Europe.

Ah, yes, right, thank you. But that price would make it even more expensive, as it doesn't include Vat.

PanasonicUSA has stated when it was announced that it's going to be under $5,000 USD MSRP. How much under is anyone's guess, but it will be under.

For cross pricing purpose from the same manufacturer and on the same retailer site - HC-X1000 is £1,445 or £1,774, including VAT, or ~ 40% of the stated DVX200 sticker.

In the US, B&H has HC-X1000 for $2,800-3,000, before the sales tax wherever applicable. So, X1000 x 2.5 and you get ~ $5,500-$7,000. Straight conversion is the UK £ x 1.54, as of right now.

Pricing will be key when it comes to the owner/operator market. Too high and many will pass. It will be quite a wager to see where it will end up. I think for wide acceptance it needs to be closer to $3,500 than $5,000. The mirrorless space and Blackmagic have really moved the goalposts. $4,999 for 8bit 4:2:0 is looking expensive. The point in which the lens ramps from 2.8 onward will play a large part as well. If it goes to f3.5 at 50mm eq then it will lose interest. If at 100mm eq then we are still talkin'. Just my opinions.

Right. Due to the bigger sensor area used in 4K an the supposedly higher sensitivity the DVX 200 COULD be as good @ f/3,5 as the GH4 with the f/2,8 12-35mm lens. Which is not bad for a start. If this aperture goes up to 50mm (100mm in 35mm) - even better.

rx10 mk2 is looking mighty attractive.

$3500 would be a very good price for this cam but unlikely to happen
looking at its only 420 8bit, which is usually where panasonic cams are priced ( lower than their p2 cams)

Depends on framerate - if you're talking about 50/60p the DVX200 crops a lot as well.

As far as price goes, then remember it doesn't even start shipping for well over 2 months, and a lot could happen in that time.

As far as competition goes, I'd say it's nearest competitor at the moment is the PXW-Z100, though a little bit of an apples and oranges comparison - the DVX200 wins on sensor size, the Z100 wins on codec and a couple of other smaller points, and CVP pricing is very similar for both.

What could change things quite a lot is if Sony put the lens and front end of the RX10 II into a Z100 body, complete with XAVC as codec (as the Z100). I suppose IBC is only a couple of months away....? :)

Seeing the PX-270 hover in the $5000-$5,500 range, I see a $4999 DVX-200 as high. The PX-270 is a P2 camera with all of the high level menu controls. How much more tech is in a single sensor camera compared to a three chipper?

About the lens ramping. The way I see it, f2.8 is very important for the 4/3rds sensors in order to get the SDOF look. If you are shooting an interview, you are going to want to stay in the standard portrait focal lengths (50mm-100mm FF eq). If the lens starts to ramp early in its range that makes the DVX-200 a little bit less useful as a tool imho.
