The Run Down Starring LEBROZ JAMES(not the rock)

Truth is I have a good idea why it looks the way it does,

Panasonic seriously did not prepare themselves with aesthetics

Its good and bad, more good than bad

There Panasonic Pro department was literally probably more busy trying to figure out how to get the most out of 1/3 ccd's

Without offcourse stepping on the shoes of Its big brothers (Varicams/ & pissing off Matsushita and its other electronics conglamorates)

No one company can dominate, they all work together (Yes Sony/Pansonic/Canon)

Its about business...

Panasonic has to be commended out of all the companies new cameras this(HVX MonStar) is pushing the most boundaries and buttons.

There will be a revision B HVX, and I'm sure Matsushita will be calling Panasonic asking them to keep prices high on this camera and all its gadgets.

No matter how cheap the SD cards become(P2) and how cheap this 1/3 cam costs to make be assured you will pay a premium.

If it was up to Panasonic Pro America I'm sure they would let it go cheaper, but Its pure economics and price fixing at its best.

Big ups to Japan and the way they do business, Same thing Dell and HP do here...

Never let a bear with a keybard, things like this happend! ;-D

Lebroz, there´s usually the believe that companies work with each other to get nice living, but while this is good for their profit, is bad for us. Look this consortium-hell! But Pana is a company and probably their share holders and big bosses want to get bigger. And they have a nice target company with big margin like Sony.

Sony cant do anything but answer, and if they don´t do, they´ll loose profits... They can´t get to Pana and say: Put price up or...

Or nothing, because they can´t threat Pana with anything. Matsushita can get upset with them because of the price, but it´s future earnings what they are going after, and while HVX200 will be a number one, HD100 will be number two, so good for them, bad for Sony.

The more options they offer, the more different markets they will get. Best example to what not to do? ATRAC... Best to do? HVX200, keep everybody happy (or how is it? If you make it, they will come...??)

For last, well, things are changing, MP3, Skype, DIVX, Drake, Micro35... If big companies don´t give us what we want, somebody else will do!

Lebroz,

I doubt there is any pressure to make the price higher. Panasonic execs are already going to try to make the price as high as possible, while selling as many units as possible. I doubt Varicam and CineAlta sales are going to be hurt by this at all. In fact, I bet this will get more people into HD and likely spur more sales of the true high-end equipment. Remember, the new panny doesn't even have interchangeable lenses. While we may live with that, many pro's won't even think about it. They are simply in two different markets.
