DVX-100B pricing

Does anyone know if Panasonic is going to start dropping prices on the DVX once the HVX200 satisfies current demand? I've been watching a lot of used DVXs being put up for sale, and apparently they're not retaining their resale values like they used to. The current DVX rebate ends February 28th and I'm wondering if Panasonic will maybe drop the price a few hundred dollars, maybe in the range of where the 100A was selling after the new 100B came out. I think the HVX will drop in price by a couple hundred dollars once the early adopters get their fix. So maybe the DVX will drop as well. Would be nice to see a 100B sell for around $2800 thru authorized resellers. Maybe throw a $200 rebate on top of it. Otherwise I'm just going to pick up a used one. Seems to be a lot out there with low hours. And at really good prices.

I wouldn't count on the B's dropping much at all. The used DVX prices are mostly A's, and once the HVXers that want to unload their cameras do so, the glut will abate.

Pany will hold the DVXB prices pretty solidly as a niche camera, IMO.

Hey Andrew,

FYI. Prices for us Canucks are getting better. Pretty close to US dollars after exchange rate.

DVShop.ca has the B for $3899 with a 2 year extended warranty. The warranty extra is only until the end of January.

Vistek.ca has the B for $4099.

Merkle.com has the B for $3749 but as a "web only" price.

In early December (before the Christmas sales) the prices were all up around $4300.

So, as you can see the prices are coming down. Now, hopefully the HVX will start coming down within the next 18 months (along with P2 cards & FS drives) and I'll trade up.

sincerely,

ian

I bought mine at AbelCineTech, New York City, yesterday for $3,453.40 including shipping. 212.462.0100, ask for Christy, extension 2144. By the way, they are an authorized Panasonic Dealer. As much as I love B & H and EVS, Abel beat them both out by over $100.00.

I still think the best way to go on buying s DVX is to go used. The market is saturated right now, and I don't think brand new 100B's are selling all that well. If you can pick up a used 100A with low hours for maybe around $2000 to $2200, I'd say that's worth it. Many people seem to buy the DVX and attempt to shoot one film, then put the camera on a shelf for a year before deciding to sell it. I've seen a number of DVX's with less than 10 hours on them go for around $2000 and a little higher. I'd say any camera with under 50 hours on the heads is a good buy at that price, maybe even up to 100 hours for a little less but you never know if the camera was used as a deck or not, even if the owner says he didn't use it that way.

I think, though, if you're bent on buying a brand new camera, EVSonline is the way to go with the Rush/DVXuser discount (gotta call on the phone). It's $3440 for the most current 100B -- slightly less than BH photo and the customer service is amazing at EVS. With the rebate, it works out to be $3240. I've seen a grey market version of the camera for sale on eBay for around $2800, from a reputable seller. But to me I'd rather buy a used version with low hours for $2000. There's also a reputable website selling the "authorized" package of the 100B for $3199, which works out to be $2999 after rebate. But I'd just assume buy from Rush, even if it's $200 more because the customer and tech support etc. will definitely be worth it.

One more thing, Jan at Panasonic USA mentioned in a post a while back that it's not worth buying the extended MACK warranty because Panasonic doesn't accept it for repairs, etc. But I've heard differing stories from the guys that sell these warranties.

Everybody here reports great experiences with with Rush at EVS. He seems honest and knows his stuff (indicated by his posting which are very helpful).

But if you do go there make certain to ask for him. I have tried to buy a DVX twice now at EVS (actually I tried once last year and my wife/family tried to surprise me and help me out to get one at Christmas and both times it ended up without a camera in my hands).

The first time I couldn't get a person to talk with me at the store or even look at me and they were not even busy. When I mentioned it on this site Rush was vey nice and said that they had new customer care policies in place because of this experience. Since the 100 B was coming out I decided to wait and I vowed that I would give them another shot because everybody can have on off day.

At Christmas my wife called and tried to arrange for my family to chip in get a gift certificate or a store credit or something for me so I could get the 100 B. She just wanted to give them money towards my camera. The guy on the other end was very nice she said (probably was not Rush though) and said that they could set something up but he didn't know how to do it so he would get the details and call her back the next day.

That was December 13th. Christmas came and went and she never heard from him again (Yes, they could have just given me the money, but they wanted to have something set up for me at EVS as a surprise).

So, I'm battiing zero so far at EVS. But as far as I have heard here, I'm the only one that has had two failed attempts.

I have scheduled a purchase of a new 100B and tripod (from somebody in L.A.) for the week of February 20th and I'm considering giving EVS a try one more time.

Willoughbys.com says 3235.00 before rebate for new 100b. I'm getting really trigger happy. Any opinions?

There's actually one place I know of that's even cheaper. They're not an authorized Panasonic outfit but for some reason carry the authorized package. They are rated real well by resellerratings.com

Where is this cheaper place? It sounds interesting and important for me to look into.

Wow Kelly, I must admit that's a bad run of luck with EVS. Why don't you just call ahead one time, make sure I'm there, and just come on down. I served 11 people just today in that manner. They called ahead, made sure I was there, and just came over.

Rush,

Have to admit that I have never had such a hard time giving somebody thousands of dollars:) In spite of my wife's advice about going to one of the two other places in L.A., I still might give EVS a shot (but I am a little gun shy now).

If I decide to go up to the plate at EVS for one more at bat, I will call ahead.

If you're looking for the cheapest place to buy a new DVX-100B, the best place I have seen is a reputable grey market seller on eBay. Goes for $2815 plus less than $25 shipping. But you don't get the Barry Green book/DVD ($65 value) or the Magic Bullet software ($395 value) and the Panasonic USA warranty (priceless). Grey market imports from oversees, and is usually warranted by Panasonic in the country of origin, so if it's imported from Japan, you have to send it there. Be careful because there are a ton of scam artists (hassidic Jews from Brooklyn) selling these cameras on eBay, and only the guy selling the ones for $2815 seems to be reputable. The others make you buy tons of crappy accessories and force high pressure sales.

The cheapest bet for buying a non-grey market camera is from buydig.com. They are not a Panasonic authorized reseller but they do indeed sell the authorized version with the Panasonic USA warranty that includes Barry's book/DVD and the Magic Bullet software. It sells for $3199 plus you get a $200 rebate, final price of $2999 plus shipping.

If you want peace of mind and something backed up with customer service and knowlegable tech support, I reckon the best place to buy from is EVS with the Rush/DVXuser discount currently offered at $3440, but with the $200 rebate you get it for $3240. They are an authorized Panasonic outfit. I live near B&H in New York, which is an authorized Panasonic dealer but you won't get the service and the price you get from EVS. Plus, B&H is run by hassidic Jews and are often closed on Saturdays and certain days and hours during the week, and religious days thru-out the year.

EDITED TO REMOVE REFERENCES TO THE PRIOR POST, BECAUSE THE PRIOR POST WAS EDITED AND NO LONGER CONTAINS THE OFFENSIVE LANGUAGE. REST OF POST REMAINS INTACT.

...after rebate B&H is selling the DVX100B for $3,400 which is totally within reason... And not to mention the fact that I, and many, many others, have bought thousands of dollars worth of merchandise at B&H without a hitch and with pretty decent service. B&H clearly is not one of those "shady camera shops in Brooklyn". Anyway, I just figured there needed to be another opinion on the B&H front.

I can't vouch for that EVS place , but Birns and B&H are great shops in their own respect. B&H for online, Birns for local, both very reputable and reliable.

I Have Used All Three

I Have Used All Three

Dear Fellow DVXers:

I have made major purchases at EVS, B & H and now AbelCineTech. I have had fabulous experiences with all three and human interaction with employees at all three places have been great. The only reason why I am touting Abel at this time is because they came in with the cheapest DVX 100b price. I guess at this point one must decide between the three based on "cuddlyness" of the sales clerks! Ha!

i saw the 100b for 2849 at thecamerabox.com could it be for real?

Appears to be grey market because they don't mention the DVX Book or Cinegamma software -- both worth a couple hundred bucks. Might be cheap but you're getting less. Buydig is still better, IMO.

Plus, resellerratings has several complaints that they sell grey market.
