DVX-100B longevity?

I'd appreciate any advice here. I'm looking for a miniDV player that will last longer than my consumer camcorder. So I thought I'd buy a pro-level camcorder. The DVX-100B seems to be the camera of choice for the price level I want. And having a better camcorder will give me better videoing capabilities.

What I can't tell from these forums is how reliable it is. I've seen a few posts here where people were having problems with a somewhat "young" camera. If anyone could give me an idea what to expect in that area, in hours or years, I'd appreciate it.

thanks.

they are rated for 2000 hours
but it depends alot more on how you use it, if your filming at a beach for most of the camera life the hours will be significatly lower
but if your filming in a studio the hours could be even higher

all depends on the use of the camera, but if you have a small consumer camcorder, you can already use that to playback and capture anything you film with your dvx

and that will not only cut down the hours on the camera drastically you will save the head wear from the fastforwarding and rewinding

and once you pick a tape brand stick with it, different companies use different lubricants on the tapes and some dont play well

sony uses wet lubricant, while all the other major brands and panasonic use dry lubricant

doesnt matter what you pick, just stick with it, it will keep your heads more clog free then if you didnt
