DVX 100B + Kit on Ebay

Did anyone here purchase a kit on ebay? More specifically did anyone purchase it from J&K Cameras? If so, are you satisfied with what your purchase?

Peace

i bought my dvx from j&k...before i read any reviews on the company on reseller.com or anything - they had a super good ebay rating...i got my camera on time with the stuff they said it would come with, the problem is the Digital Optics lenses are pretty much worthless - as is the tripod, case, rewinder, and mic... the light they sent is ok, the extra battery is fine, and the dvx itself is awesome...remains to be seen if Panasonic honors my rebate (kinda doubt it after reading up on this forum AFTER i ordered it)...

the problems are several when dealing with these guys, mainly that the dvx advertised on ebay (for the sweet price) is not the "u.s. version" (they tell you when you call up j&k - and when you end up trying to get the "u.s. camera" it ends up being as much as if you bought it from B&H...

my final word on j&k is this: they weren't as bad to me as some of the reviews online had expressed (although i can see where they are coming from), and i did get my camera on time in an unopened box...that being said, in the end i didn't save any money by going the "cheaper" route with j&k and the stress over wondering what the hell i had just done ordering from them instead of b&h was definately not worth it...i did get my camera tho....so if you already ordered like i did, don't stress - it'll get there

Thanks man. I ordered it also a while back and I too love the camera itself until I found out I could not get the rebate. I found out everything was the same on the camera except the fact that it is not under US warranty. They sent me the same lenses as you received I suppose. I do not understand why they even make a lens like that. It is useless. For the wide angle, you have to zoom in to get rid of the border, so what is the point of the wide angle. The telephoto lens looks like you are looking through a peephole. Its rediculous. I complained to them and they sent me a better lens. I recommend you do the same if you have not already. I do like the tripod. Its not great but with practice and weighing it down, you would be suprised. My tripod head comes off and you can mount it to car windows. Works great. What about the case do you not like? I have the hard case and find that it does the job. The mic is useless also. It has a 1/4" inch jack which the camera has no input for a 1/4" jack. I complained about that too and they credited me $50 for it. I would never do business with them again but all in all I think I got a decent package for under 4,000 dollars. I just wish it would have come with Magic Bullet and the DVX book which I bought both separately and paid under $200 for Magic Bullet. I was just curious to see if any others out there found this deal too good to be true.

i don't like the case just cause its a cheapo - i got a pelican 1550 and it wrecks the other one...good idea complaining about the lenses - which one did they give you? how long before you complained??

mine came with the dvx book and the magic bullet software - i think cause i made them give me the "U.S. version" whatever that means - still haven't heard back about the rebate...

that peephole HD digital telephoto lens they gave you are factory screwups.. you gotta take it apart and re-arange the elements for it to work properly.. but it never really does.

I don't suppose any of you have tried bestpricecameras.com before? It looks too good to be true, so it probably is...thought I'd ask though.

i think bestprice is the same company as j&k/infinityphoto...i could be wrong but i'm pretty sure i read that they're the same....

I think they sent me a Crystal Vision lens. It's a 7mm .7x wide angle. I like the lens that the DVX comes with but I wanted one that gives a larger than life surreal wideness to it and I never knew how to explain what I wanted. Somehow, the one they sent me was exactly what I wanted. If you watch the Sopranos, they use something similar. It emits a surrealness. I complained immediately when I realized the one they sent me was trash. The whole reason I bought that kit was for the lens only. It seemed like a good package. They have 100% positive feedback on ebay, so I trusted that.

Another question, do you need a lisence number for Magic Bullet? I already bought mine and am waiting for it to come in but I heard its not even licensed?

Thanks

Personally anytime I'm spending money I want to know exactly what I'm getting and would never order a grey market camera or a package with a bunch of useless accessories to justify the price. Too risky and not worth it in my opinion.

I'm glad both of you got your cameras and that jazz, but still a thread like this could encourage people to order from this company rather than get a legit US DVX that comes with the warranty. You will spend more for the camera but isn't it worth it to get the quality, warranty, and a legit unit. When there are great retailers like www.evsonline.com why go anywhere else?

to be sure i'm not advocating buying a camera from anywhere except B&H as i have no other personal experience (i'm sure EVS is fine based on its reputation in this forum) - i replied to this thread to reassure anyone who may have ALREADY placed an order with a shady place that these are not simply criminal enterprises (as some threads tend to imply)

my point is, if you haven't ordered yet, DON'T go with a too-good-to-be-true price, because it is and you won't end up saving any $...but if you're reading this after you've already ordered one from such a place, and have already dealt with the bait and switch type issues and the high-pressure sales techniques, don't spend every second between now and when the package comes worrying about getting jacked and checking the fraud protection on your credit card statement....get some sleep, say a prayer to the dvx gods, and wake up in the morning a day closer to *hopefully/probably* getting what you ordered....

I did mention that I would never deal with these guys again. If I had known it was grey market, believe me, I would have bought elsewhere. I will mention again about their 100% positive feedback on Ebay. I know I will not trust feedback as much anymore. I read hundreds of their reviews and only one complained about the lenses. J&K replied to send it back and they would take care of it. I figured it was an honest mistake. I did not think everyone was receiving the same lenses. BTW, the camera is in perfect condition.

I personally have no problem with grey market cameras as long as the menus, instructions, etc are in english. My issue is when these places don't tell you that the cameras are grey market. I agree that buying from an authorized dealer is best, especially now when there are such good rebates out there. Personally, I would NEVER buy a kit because the stuff they include is usually of of very low quality.

I am relatively pleased with my kit. The tripod is not top notch but a little practice and it is worth it. The case is great. I complained about the lens and the mic and they sent me a better lens and credited me for the mic. I received 20 DV tapes. The mini light they included is great and will come in handy as I plan to a mini documentary as research for a script. I will never buy like this again but I think I got off lucky this time.

Peace

My understanding from people I have talked with in Japan the DVX only has english menus. A grey market camera does have a warranty also, you have to send it overseas to get it fixed, but it does exist. Personally I wouldnt want to send it overseas for warranty but I guess it could be a risk some are willing to take.

Grey Market vendors DO have a right to do the business they do as long as they make thier buyers aware of the conditions. (from what I read however that doesnt happen too often). Peace.

i just called up J&K regarding the B.S. lenses and the B.S. mic they sent me (and i got my camera a month ago now)

they agreed to credit me $50.00 for the mic and if i send them back the lenses and mic (which i'm gonna) they'll hit me with $350.00

this will still leave me with the DVX, the light, the case, a tape rewinder, filter kit, 12v adapter, the 20 DVC tapes, the poopy tripod and a Repairtech 4 year warranty for under 4 grand.... and this is before my rebate has come back (or not)

i figure the 350 will get me about halfway to a real wide-angle, but who cares? the lenses J&K sent were USELESS

Did Panasonic verify the rebate? I sent mine in and it was rejected. Also, the warranty they sold you, it can be used here in the states, right? I'm hearing you have to send it over seas, but J&K told me Best Buy or Circuit City will fix it.
