I just taken delivery of a DVX 100B. When turning it on, there is a faint motor noise coming from the front of the camera near the focus ring. It is only audible when in the camera mode and it dissapears when it is in the VCR mode. The sound is audible in both auto and manual focus modes. Is this normal? Thank you in advance.

I have seen over 40 views of this post, but no responses. I have searched these forums and have not found this particular issue posted anywhere. Can anyone please reply to this post to say if this is an issue they have experienced? Can anyone with a DVX 100B turn their camera on and say if they hear this very faint mechanical or motor noise near the front of the camera near the focus ring? I only have 3 days to inspect the camera and return it if there are any defects. Is this a defect? Maybe this is a minor flaw or acceptable issue with the DVX 100B. Thank you all.

Does it go away when you switch to manual focus? I have not seen (heard) this on DVX, but I have on other cameras when the autofocus mechanism was dirty and/or worn out.If you are unsure, return it. There are other DVXes on the 2nd hand market.

Thanks for the reply. From what you are saying, this is normal? This is my first DVX 100B and I am unfamiliar with the nuances of this camera that has been around for a few years.

It might be normal. AF and IS are not completely silent, but if they are OK, they should not be too noisy either.

Servo's are never entirely silent, and a faint sound as you describe is normal operation. There's a lot going on in the lens of cameras, and even if you turn AF "off", the servos are still powered up, same with the IS, it's constantly trying to stabilize the lens, so, a faint noise is normal.

The camera is very quiet, however a very faint noise can be heard sometimes. If its loud enough that its getting in the way even when using external microphones, then something is wrong.

Yes. When power to the camera is off you can hear the "clunk" noise that everyone is aware of. It dissapears when power is turned on.
