Just recently I had my trusty DVX-100A fail. It has 657 hours on it, which is a lot, but its always been well cared for. I noticed today when trying to play back a tape I had shot, the camera wouldn't play it back. The Time Code reader would read out TC* with an asterisk meaning it couldnt read the timecode. The tapes played fine in other decks.
So now before I take my camera in for service, is this something I can fix myself by doing a recording head clean? Or is this caused by a different head (a playback head?). And finally, if I take it in, will they need to replace the heads or simply just clean it up. I'm hoping it won't cost too much, if it does I'd consider just buying a new camera with fewer hours on it.
Thanks in advance!
