DVX 100a - mini 35 nikon lenses.

This is a movie i shoot this summer.
I used my backyard as a studio and filmed it at night.
So i could position my lights where i wanted them and not get any
exposure on the background. Because the mini 35 and the
DVX 100 steels about 2 steps for me with the settings i used.
Edited 16.9, 25p and color corrected in FCP, effects most in camera except picture in picture Add.

I used one 2000 W, 500w Tungsten and a Didolight.
All shoot one night with no budget, from idea to finished cut in 6 days.
Borrowed all equipment from a feature film.
I was doing the light, b-foto and assistant editor on.

Props: Food oil, Plastic foil, Hot cooking water.

I would love to get any response on this experimental film.
And check out some other work posted on my home page.

Thanks for the reply, will se if i will ever make a horror flick, i will probably use the ideas, for some strange music video or commercial.

Re: DVX 100a - mini 35 nikon lenses.

I think I heard the neighbor's kid cry when I played this. And my dog is in the corner whimpering.

Okay, I'm creeped out now.

BUT!

This was a stunning piece. Beautifully shot, lit, and edited. And the music underscore fit perfectly.

Thanks for the post.

I'm going to go have a daymare now.

Re: DVX 100a - mini 35 nikon lenses.

How did it cost you to rent the P+S Technik Adapter + lenses?

I have been looking into renting it for my short film... but so far haven't been able to find a solid price...

very nicely shot and edited BTW.. very creepy.. i liked it a lot

Re: DVX 100a - mini 35 nikon lenses.

MrSteinberg, Sir - Your member avatar (photo) file size is HUGE!!!! It's 1mb and 218 frames. :o My last short film wasn't that big! Come on, help some of us out and take that baby down to a reasonable size. You can easily get it down to 50k-70k. Please.

Ok, now that my computer is finished downloading your avatar (10 minutes wasted) I have now begun dowloading your movie. But, just by looking at the 2 grabs, it looks as though the 1st is a duo-tone and the 2nd is b/w. Is that right? I thought we all agreed we would always use the same color pallete and never color outside the lines? Did I miss a meeting or a memo? ;D Seriously, the grabs look great!

Thanks for the feedback..
the lenses were my own nikon lenses and one borrowed.
I'm from sweden so the price here is 900kr a day. just for the Adapter.
But as i said i did not pay for it, i borrowed it from a feature film we where shooting this sommer. But if you are going to make a short on DV just must use one of these,, there awsome, Don't go over 5.6 on the lens and let the motor in the Adapter go on full speed. and set the shutter speed at about 50, you couldprobebly go faster but i spotted the matte thing thats spins inside of the adapter sometimes then. It looks graine and you can se it spinning. Well well good luck. id love to see the finished work.

last i looked it was: 60,000 swedish kr for the mini 35 and 15,000 kr for the lens adapter specific for dvx 100

Re: DVX 100a - mini 35 nikon lenses.

Niiice. Makes me want to go out and get a full body massage now.
I wasn't creeped out and I'm not really into "artsy" type shorts... but man, this was some good stuff.

TheRe: DVX 100a - mini 35 nikon lenses.

THe image is astonishing. I will download all your movies tonight. HOw old are you and where did you learn this?

About the mini35. I would like to rent one to see if it is as good as it should be. THe main problem i see (besides the price) is that the blurred parts of the image get a little soft, like if a gaussian blur was added in post. I think it is a problem of prisms or whatever mechanism is inside the adapter. I havent seen this in this short, but i do have seen in it in every other (probably not in this case becasue of the contrst and dark areas). Does anyone know more about this ussue? Anyone know hoe to rent it it Spain?

Bye!

Re: DVX 100a - mini 35 nikon lenses.

I have seen now RUBIK. Is it 35mm? 16? Color is great. Stylishing is even better. I wish it had subtitles. ;D

Was that build on a set? If not, how did you set up all the lights? Great job my friend!

Thanks for the great respons! I'm 21, made it when i was 20 : ) I learned by doing. Started at 13 and i have just made a hole lot off stuff. This summer i worked on a feature film with the exakt same equipment. So i just took my new knowledge and made my own little thing. Been going to filmschool alså, but mostly i have learned by doing.

mini 35 adds some sort of blur yes, i have only tried it with my Nikon lenses. i hope it get's better with real film lenses, Specially the wide angel lenses. my 50mm looked pretty sharp do. As you said my film very contrasty and you have only seen the web version. it has some grain and blur.. but not as hard as when shooting day time and with alot of wide angel.. my 20mm on a wide shoot basicly looks blurred, you should probebly take the 35 adapter off then for view shoot. try it for your self to se. defenitly worth it using the adapter dv looks a hole lot better. But don't forget all the settings in the camera,25p and a must is to color correct it. "Synthetic Aperture - Color Finesse" is awsome.. i used FCP 3 way color corection on this one but just started using Color Finesse and i like it a hole lot. I'ts more like working with the film scanners. i mean the setup.

Thanks for all the kind words, great that you liked the color i worked my ass off for that.
16mm, scanned to digibeta and i used Color Finesse to color corect it.
We found an old mental hospital that was empty. I lived there for a week pretty scary place. I borrowed 2 HMI 1200w, 1 HMI 575w and and hole set of 2000w and 800w. 2 4bank Kinoflows 1.2m, 4 seperet lysrör. can't come upp with the name in english :),
The sellings were hi so most is lit a bit from above. I expermeted with diffrent light ideas in every room :) not maybe the best to do but it's a school film and we wanted diffrent feelings for every room and i learned a hole lot working that way.

I'm sorry it's in swedish no translation coming soon sorry!

Re: DVX 100a - mini 35 nikon lenses.

Did you stick the paper of the walls?
Have any pictures of the set with the lights on top?

I don´t understand why s16mm looks so good sometimes.
BTW, like Andrew blake? ;D
