DVX-100A maintenance questions

My DVX-100A has approx. 75 hours logged and I need to address a couple on maintenance issues;

First, there seems to be a build-up of sticky substance around the battery compartment, which makes the batteries difficult to properly engage. What's the best way to clean this area?

Second, I just noticed when I move my ND filter slide swith all the way down to "off" position, the upper portion of the slot stays open. Is there another piece here which has come loose or could it be stuck somehow?

id probably say just get a q-tip and some rubbing alcohol to get that gunk off. just make sure it dries before u put the battery back on, just incase.
