DVX 100a Anamorphic 16:9 to Avid Xpress workflow

Hey everyone,

I am in the process of buying an anamorphic lens for my DVX. I am a little confused about the settings and workflow for this in AVID Xpress Pro. I hope to shoot the squeezed video on the camera, capture it in Avid, watch and edit it as an unsqueezed widescreen image, then output it as letterboxed DV video.

--Also, I am hoping to use the firewire on my laptop computer as a live viewing screen while shooting. What programs and settings should I use to see a live widescreen image? I have DvRack.

Thanks in advance,

Steve Zimmerman

Doesn't sound like you're confused at all. That's a viable workflow.

Steve -

You can choose how you want to deal with the anamorphic images. You can apply a letterbox to the material or you can always encode as MPEG2 with the anamorphic flag and let the DVD player decide whether to letterbox or not based on the players preferences which in turn is based on the monitor being used with that player.

Since you have DV rack you can see it in letterbox mode. You can preview you clips using Window Media player and it will show it at unstretched widescreen mode for preview purposes.
