DVX 100 to the NEW iMac Help

Hello, I just recently purchased a DVX 100, and an iMac, for some reason they can't talk to each other, I've taken the iMac and the camera to the mac store, and spent 3 hours trying to figure out the problem, but none of them could figure anything out, The camera works with any other Computer Mac book pro, and the pro machines, it won't however work with any other iMac, and other cameras work on my iMac. I've tried everything from, using imovie, Final Cut, and using a hard drive as a mediator. I know the fire wire port on my iMac is in good working condition, because my Audio hardware works through it. If anyone out there can offer any help, or has had any similar problems, I'm in desperate need of help

Thanks

i had a problem with my brand new imac and my dvx. the firewire port was no good. i brought it back to the apple store and they just gave me a new one.

Hi-
I'm very interested to hear feedback on this as well. I just bought my (used) DVX100a the other day and I'm also on a new 20" Intel iMac. I've read this problem over in Apple as well as another forum. It seems to be limited to the FW port. I'm hoping Apple makes a work around for this. I've read that others worked around it by just using the USB port, but that's not advised per the way data is xfered (packets vs streaming). Having just bought mine, I haven't even tried to hook it up to my computer yet (don't even have the cable since it doesn't come with one (?) ) so my fingers are crossed that I don't run into this issue.

Well, I finally got all cables and software installed...and alas, I'm having the same issue; not recognized.:crybaby:

So, not sure what to do. I know it's not the cable nor the dvx b/c I went over to my old G4 laptop and was recognized and able to capture there with no problems. So, it has to be the imac. Crap.

Any work-arounds? Anyway we can alert apple to this? What a crock.

Yes, contact apple immediately to figure out what's going on. I haven't heard of this issue, but if it were me, I'd be mad, and I'd expect them it figure it out asap. Still under applecare I take it??

Get on the horn. Or if you say you went to the apple store, and they couldn't figure it out, what did they say then?? they have to figure it out, or find other means to help you out.

EDIT: wait... you say OTHER cameras work with your imac?? Well, then it may not be an issue with apple...

Possible Solution!!

Possible Solution!!

Ok, I figured this out by accident...If you plug in a Hard drive Via FW 800, (i use lacie) to the iMacs Port, then plug the the FW 400 into the hard drive, open iMovie, plug the Fire wire in the DVX, with the tape in the spot you want to start from, turn on the camera super fast, and hit the VCR button.... The blue popup window should pop up in iMovie it sounds rediculous and Stupid but this exact order works...I've tried other ways other orders, and this order is the one that works...it makes no logical sense, but that's the one that worked for me, I spent an entire day on the phone with apple care, and they couldn't figure it out...I also spent a couple nights in the mac store, and no one could figure it out...We found a case on Creative cows site, where they deleted a codec out of a quicktime folder burried somewhere, we tried that on some machines at the Mac store and nothing worked, Try this method lemme know if it works for you

Cheers

Crap, I meant to post this, but I found a work-around as well...similar to the one above, but not exactly the same. This was suggested by apple care, but the guy wasn't sure if it would work, but luckily it did. He said there were to work arounds that reportedly worked:

1) Use a FW hub: Have a hub that plugs into the back of your iMac, then plug the cameras FW out to the hub. Should work.

or 2, which I use and it does work:

2) Just use an external FW HD. Now, above, it was mentioned FW 800 to 400 on the iMac. I didn't even get that in depth. Mine is very simple, and works perfectly. No having to press buttons quickly or anything...it just works. Perfect capture whether it's log and capture, batch capture ets. That is, it works the way it should. I have a Lacie ext drive that has 2 FW 400 ports. So basically it's daisy chained; the DVX plugs into one port on the back of the Lacie, then a FW cable out of the Lacie into the back of the iMac. Viola. Works perfect.

Now, I'm still a little peeved that I have to go through all of this. C'mon Apple, get it together. This is a pretty popular camera. But, I am glad I've got it working now. Hope this helps someone else down the road.

Cool, I'm glad we found a solution, hopefully Apple or some one will catch more wind of this problem and find a Fix for it.

Hope this helps anyone else

Cheers
