I think it´s not the first time somebody put this topic, but I want to know your opinions...
In terms of quality, It´s a good idea to sell the DVX 100 to have a new hmc 150?

I have a dvx100 original (not A o B) with a SGPro 35mm adaptor, with very good results, I think.
I squeeze and upress to SD anamorphic or to HD 720p in After effects, with filter of noise reduction. A good way for me to been using the DVX100 in pan formats.

My question is:
Is the look and quality image of HMC 150, mainly in cinema mode, so good like in DVX100 is?
(I,m not worry about HD resolution or 16:9 format)
Any experiences with both cameras?
It,s there any comparatives ?
Thanks

The HMC owners report that the CINEMA looks on the 150 are every bit as good as the DVX.
For me, the cost increase of about 1,200 to 1,400 for the camera plus a computer upgrade is not a TON of money but it would take me to nearly TWICE what I paid to get up and running full bore with the DVX.
I know ten grand is nothing to spend if you're a pro. But I'm not and that's like lottery winning money to me.
I put money into a great tripod, a shoulder stabilizer, lights, and even a new crane and dolly setup. All for the price difference of going hi-def.
We'll all be hi-def in a few years...but as long as films like IRAQ IN FRAGMENTS and SIMILO are being done on the DVX, we're fine for now.

I think this camera depends on your current situation....I have an older laptop that I use for just about everything, and I'm doing Hi-Def on an HVX...if I had to deal with HMC footage, my system would probably choke on it.

I think your better off either saving up for a HVX/HPX, or spending that cash on other tools that could get you even more out of your DVX

Plus I just generally dislike any non-standard video...I like DV/DVCPRO, and try to avoid anything outside of this, although I did do a short with the XH-A1, and it turned out ok...but I would have rather filmed on my camera.

These films were made three years ago. If they were made today, in 2009, they would undoubtedly use an HD camera as the technology has improved to where it is a moot point.

Unless you absolutely cannot afford the HMC-150, then get that camera.

Period.

thanks for your opinions,
I will go for the HMC,... probably next year. At the moment I will continue with my old-pretty DVX (...snif...)

I have the DVX100 (original) and the HMC150. Both are similar in 4x3 if I captured the HMC footage via a BOB with the component inputs. It is even better if I edit in HD and export it to a SD DVD at the end.

Where it is better (better than the 100b) is when working in 16:9. The HMC footage is similar to the 100b compared to it's 4:3 resolution, but when shooting in squeeze mode, the 100b looses about 20% in resolution.

Also, I found the HMC to be a little bit more sensitive in 30p and to be better in some situations like when filming with black light. Sometimes, the DVX sensor fall completely out of focus (when I filmed figure skating with black lights and red light) while the HMC was still in focus.

Did you tried to shot with bands ( with DVX) and uprez to 16:9 in post, with after effects? I think you can obtain better results than shooting in squeeze mode.
