DVX 100 Magnifier

Re: DVX 100 Magnifier

Interesting product. I am not sure I would buy one in not having 'disposable income' in the vien of $300.00 and my vision is still sharp. BUt I can see this as a bene to others.

Now, an affordable Follow Focus for the DVX100 and you got a deal! :D

Re: DVX 100 Magnifier

I don't know... I experimented with the LCD magnifier/desqueezer at DV Expo (on a PD150, I think), and it didn't seem all that useful -- it covers up the menu buttons, and it's hard to get the right angle of view to see the picture properly. It seems like the viewfinder de-anamorphosizer would be the better option, but I haven't seen that installed on the camera so I don't know if there are any drawbacks in actually using it.

Re: DVX 100 Magnifier

I probably wouldn't get one, unless it was less than thirty dollars...Wouldn't it just blow up a soft image (the LCD screen is only so high in resolution). I'd much rather get a monitor, even a TV, and use that instead...

Re: DVX 100 Magnifier

well said Mike...I agree...for 500 bucks I could just buy the Panasonic 7" LCD..I mean...come on..its 16:9 and everything ;D

Re: DVX 100 Magnifier

true.. i would buy one of those "everlasting gobstoppers" and then i could always have a gobstopper when i wanted one.

Re: DVX 100 Magnifier

I remember when I was about six or seven, finding in a store a pack of "everlasting gobstoppers". I was so stoked! Haven't seen them recently though...Maybe I'll just have to find Wonka's Factory...

Re: DVX 100 Magnifier

$300...not a chance. Actually, I really dont see much use for this at all. I wouldnt even spend $20 on it :-/

EDIT: Unless it was worth $300 and it was sold to me for $20 ;D

Re: DVX 100 Magnifier

Not necessarily "enuff said" -- does the Edmund fresnel do 16:9 unsqueezing?

The product Century is talking about is an anamorphic de-squeezer for the LCD panel, which also includes a magnifier and a lens hood. Are you saying that you've found a fresnel that does the 1:33 unsqueeze? If so, that might be a very inexpensive way to do the same thing, and I'm sure the guys making the homemade mini35 would love to know about it. But I'm assuming this isn't the case, and people just didn't understand that this isn't just an LCD magnifier, it's also an anamorphic un-squeezer...

ahh okay. Thanks for the clarification. Now it seems a little more useful. Unfortunately i dont have an anamorphic adaptor, and if i did, i probably would spend $300 on something else.

Re: DVX 100 Magnifier

I'm seconding what David said...but that would make it more useful. Thing is, the reason I don't have the anamorphic lens is because it seems to be too much money to be worth it (I barely could afford the DVX in the first place) so getting a de-anamorphosizer is out of the question for me.

But I definitely can see its usefullness now...

Re: DVX 100 Magnifier

I still don't see why you wouldn'y just buy the Panasonic 7" LCD and mount that on your cam?

Re: DVX 100 Magnifier

Didn't know it did more than just magnify. To unsqueeze the image you might need to bow the fresnel lens inward somewhat. ;D

Re: DVX 100 Magnifier

I would like say that this magnifier also unsqueezes the image, but it does not. We tried that, but it did not look very good, so we dropped it. We do have the 16:9 Eyepiece that does that job. On the smaller LCD screens (like the PD 150) the magnifier makes a differance, it sounds like on the larger screen DVX it will not.
