DVX-100 indoor "video" settings

I am about to start shooting an indoor "home remodel" video. I intend to try to sell the DVD's door to door with the hope of maybe getting broadcast on TV. It may sound like a far fetched idea but I'm recently laid off and have wanted to do this project for a while now.

I am not looking for a "film" look. Most of the posts I've found seem to point towards settings for special film-like effects. I just want as clean and professional (crisp, bright colors, low noise, high resolution) a picture as I can pull out of my original dvx-100. I have a fair lighting kit (tungsten balanced), quality audio gear (audio technica lavaliers and sennheiser mkh 416t shotgun), and a good tripod. I will be editing this in Final Cut Pro and using Apple Color, Compressor, Soundtrack Pro, and DVD Studio Pro throughout the project. Any tips or recommendations (or links to previous posts I may have overlooked) would be appreciated. Thanks. Richard

If you want just a 4:3 standard DVD quality, then leave everything at 0 and shoot in 4:3. If you want 16:9 ready for HD, turn the detail level down to -4, turn up the detail coring to +3, and leave everything else at 0. Leave the gamma and matrix to either standard or whatever. Just remember to white balance.

Thanks JCal11379, I do just want 4:3 standard DVD quality. I also would like the best picture quality I can manage as I'm taking the project pretty seriously. In my practice shots I have been setting the detail level to -4 and then sharpening in Compressor. I like the results o.k. but am not really impressed. Why do you think detail at 0 is a better option? Also, would you recommend 30p as a good option for high resolution if I intend to go to DVD? I've also been using V Detail Freq at THIN. Is this preferable for my purposes? Thanks again.

Hi Richard.

I shoot 30P for my corporate videos and documentaries. In my opinion, it's the
best way to get the most out of the camera visually, without it looking too
filmic. I never shoot in 24p or 60i.

As for settings, I've had that same issue myself. It's really a matter of taste. Here
is a link to some settings that have served me well in the past (but at 30p)

I would also recommend shooting in 4:3 if you're final output is DVD.

Hope this helps.

If you put the detail at -7 (the lowest it will go), thats what the camera is actually "seeing". After that, it white ballances, the uses the scene settings to adjust the image. Then it compresses for the tape. Raising the detail level will have the camera do the sharpening before it compresses to DV. So basically the camera will have more resolution and data to work with.
