DVX 100 IMPORT VERSION !?!?!?!

Alright,
I want the damn camera so bad I will almost do dirty things to get it. But for now, just ignore such a comment. I looked into some web companies such as Digital Liquidators and AM Photo Wolrd, Royal Camera etc. They have available, a import version of the DVX 100 for considerably cheaper than the American model. The only difference being that it's buttons and controls are in chinese. A salesman told me that no warranty was on it, however I could purchase an extended 4 year warranty for it. He would also send me user manual in english. So to round off figures, I would end up paying about $2900 for it after shipping ( $2150 w/o warranty). Is this a good route or should I completely avoid such a transaction and keep saving my hard earned dough for the American model ? Are there any accounts of legitamcy to be told or is this a hoax ? Please help me out.

Thanks

Run screaming from A&M Photo World, Digital Liquidators, Royal Camera, Broadway Photo . . they're horrible, and they're actually all the same company.  They're notorious scammers, and they'll try to sell you everything under the sun.  They break out the items in the box and sell them to you separately, whereas you should get them WITH the camera.

And if it's printed in Chinese -- if it's meant for the Chinese, and not Taiwanese, market -- then it may be a PAL camera, and you need an NTSC model.

And they're going to give you a 4-year warranty for $750?  That's INSANE.  The Mack 4-year warranty, available at most reputable dealers, is only $170.

If you're looking at a DVX100 as opposed to a DVX100A, B&H lists them for $3000.  That's a brand new American model with full warranty AND an unopened box with all accessories.  Throw in the 4-year warranty if you want one for that long -- you're talking $3170, which is *only* $270 above what you're considering paying the shysters -- and you'll have good service, and no worries whatsoever.

If you still don't want to pay that much, used DVXs sell for about $2500, and most should still be under warranty.  You'll most likely get everything the camera comes with, too.

I understand you want the camera badly, but don't go that route.

Re: DVX 100 IMPORT VERSION !?!?!?!

I am in Hong kong and have not seen the DVX100 in China. however, I doubt the ones selling in China have Chinese menu/buttons... even the ones selling in Japan do not have japanese menu and interface. Just does not sound right at all. Yes, China is PAL.

Re: DVX 100 IMPORT VERSION !?!?!?!

I suspect that's even MORE reason to worry, if the DVXs available in China don't have Chinese writing on them . . .

But what else can you expect from these guys?

Their consumer reviews are horrible. They even created their own Web-based consumer review forum so that they could say they're "customer certified" by someone. But Bizrate, Epinions, etc -- they're all horrendously reviewed. (If you look at the positive reviews on the legitimate review sites, you'll notice that between the various stores, they have copy/pasted good reviews. Hmmm . . . can't imagine who posted THOSE . . .)

How are they still in business? Must be a continual flow of new, unaware customers, 'coz I can't imagine they've got any repeaters.
