Re:  DVRig PRo Review

It does seem a little overpriced, I bought mine for $585 at EVS. I think that if the price went to $499 they would sell way more of them. However, is it worth the price. Definatly, I love it, can't work without it. I did a shoot recently where I felt that I wouldn't need the "pro" and didn't bring it with me. Boy was I wrong. That thing will go with me everywhere now.

Re:  DVRig PRo Review

I don't know what goes into making these. However, if the price were a bit lower, like $400 or so, it would be so superior to those "cheesier" ones that they would sell so many, they'd corner the market.

It's kind of like a post in another thread on this site about the DVX itself. Given it's unique capabilities, Panasonic could have made the DVX100 cost $8000 - sell far fewer, but a much bigger profit per camera. However, they chose to make their profit by selling many of them at a lower profit per camera. Now when one considers whether to buy a GL2 or VX2100 or a DVX100A, the choice becomes - hey go cheaper and get halfway decent stuff, or pay a little more and get top shelf. The DV Rig Pro is top shelf, but is priced so much higher than the $100-$200 shoulder supports, there's a real choice of cost vs. functionality. However, if the DV Rig Pro cost $400, I wouldn't think twice - I'd go for the top shelf. It would be a streach, but I could justify it. But at $600, it's just too out of reach for most of us. Too bad because I'd love one.

Re:  DVRig PRo Review

I noticed that the version for the XL-1 only has one hand grip. I am not sure if it comes like that or you can take them off once you get it. Anyone know? When I get mine, I am thinking about taking the left grip off and getting a zoe zoom controller then use my left hand to focus. I guess I could just leave it on there and still use my left hand to focus!

Re:  DVRig PRo Review

I'd be interested in that group discount (depending on how much). Last night, I used my DVX for my first event situation. I bought a monopod (cheap - $40) and hated it. From reading the posts here, I'm assuming that the DVRigPro gives a near tripod steadiness, right? I know I was not happy what I got out of the monopod, but maybe I haven't worked with it enough. It was an hour long ceremony, and I found myself, when possible, leaning against a wall with the handle of the tripod head attached to the top of the monopod resting on my collarbone to keep things steady. I'm used to using a tripod, and was frustrated with the monopod. I WANT A DVRIGPRO. But I really can't justify $600 right now (as I said, $400 - I'd be willing to make that streatch-but I don't know what goes into making those things, so I don't even know if that is reasonable).
