Good work!

Re: Free CarMount / Footage contest

Barry,

What kind of mic did you use for the "Love of Country" piece? Were you using a shotgun on the camera?

Re: Free CarMount / Footage contest

Shai-
Incredible work! This seemed like it was the perfect tool for the job. Looking at the actors, lighting and locations, the film had a raw beauty to it. The smoothness of the DVrig is somewhere between steadicam and handheld and with your use of longer lenses it had just the right shake to the footage to feel equally raw and beautiful. Handheld can sometimes bring attention to itself as being too shaky and steadicam can give a smooth/floating sensation while a jib can feel mechanically smooth. Each have their place. Kudos to Shai for using the DVrig on this particular film.

The footage looks so damn clean. Did you use a DVX on this shoot?

Re: Free CarMount / Footage contest

I was using an ME66 on a boompole. My gf was doing the booming and she did ok for her first time out, but she was totally inexperienced and learning on the shoot.

Re: Free CarMount / Footage contest

Brett_Erskine -- thanks! glad you liked it.
yes, it's the almighty dvx.. and true, as we chose to work with this wide scope format + handheld, we still wanted to get a relatively stable 35mm Camera like quality to the operating, and the DVrigPro really helped to achieve that. i was literally connected to this rig some 8 hours a day x 14 days of shoot.. disabling the image stabilizer (cos of the anamorphic) needed this suspension backup of the rig... not to mention the back aches i was saved from.
on some few extremely guerilla shots where i had to give away the rig, it was very missed.

Re: Free CarMount / Footage contest

Incredible. The DVX looks great but thats some of the best undoctored footage I've ever seen. I feels incredibly sharp. Care to share your scene file settings?

Re: Free CarMount / Footage contest

Re: Free CarMount / Footage contest

i was changing my settings all the time, switching cine gamma with high gamma (for the more extreme sunlight conditions), DTL -4 as default, -1 for long shots, thin resolution, chroma phase -4 / -3.

Oops! Sorry! I had sent Danny the links just so he'd have them, then saw this contest pop up, so I just notified him that they were there.

You can see "In the Eyes" through this link:
http://www.mymoviefest.com/movies/724.html

* There are two shots using the DVRig Pro: one is a shot following the photographer walking, the other is at the very end where we do a pan between the photograph and the "homeless man."

The second one isn't yet ready for public release, but I'll trust y'all to keep it quiet: I've posted a new thread here:
http://www.dvxuser.com/cgi-bin/DVX2/YaBB.pl?board=Clips;action=display;num=1103818282

* This one, as the thread says... I forgot my tripod! I shot the whole thing from the DVRig Pro, and it worked beautifully. Possibly better than a tripod would've for this kind of video anyway!

The last two are part of a large, ongoing project: I bought the DVRig specifically for this project because the nature of it is that it is totally unscripted from the point of view of the main Cast. So, myself and a DVX-100 shooter followed these folks around as they moved for a 4 hour shoot. Without the DVRig Pro it wouldn't have been nearly as smooth!

Re: Free CarMount / Footage contest

Hi again Bischofftep,

Thanks also for the photos you mailed me.

An important stability issue:

At the photos you sent me, It looks like your back weight is in a very high position, almost at the same level with the camera. As a rule, The back weight have to be as low as possible, This will lower the center of gravity lower then the
pod's support point and will dramaticly improve the horizontal stability.

Some times, And I think this will work for you, Bending in (More arc ) the last third of the shoulder brace mount will lower the weight.

Thanks again for the clips and photos.

Danny Natovich.

Re: Free CarMount / Footage contest

So when do we find out if anyone got extra XMas Presents from DVTec? ;D

Also, I've heard a few questions about the car mount price and availability: are there answers yet? If it's as well made as the DVRig itself it'll be a nice piece of work!

So far this is the best DvRig photo.

Re: DvRig Photo and Footage contest

I'm sure "stability" isn't foremost on this guy's mind... but doesn't he have the counterweight set the same way that I did? Or did I miss the point of your description of how to get the counterweight properly positioned?
