What happening out there? Is the AF100 becoming a hot potatoe?

I talked to Chris about it. His forum is for the exchange of information. He didn't have someone specific to moderate the AF100 section there, he was getting a lot of hostile and confrontational posting (none of which is conducive to the healthy exchange of information), and he decided that without a dedicated moderator for it, and seeing as it was doing a tiny fraction of the traffic our forum was, he felt that the discussion would be better suited over here.

And over here, I would say that we are not interested in "bitchfighting" either. At all. If someone gets shipped here and they think that they're going to stir up a lot of trouble and fighting, they'll find the door slammed in their face really, really quickly. If people think that this is a place for them to pontificate their superiority complex and to complain and show disdain for all the fools who bought or use a different product, they will be shown the door quickly too.

The AF100 is a popular product, and unfortunately there has been a certain element to discussions which is simply -- ain't no better way to put it -- ugly. Neither DVInfo nor DVXUser want anything to do with that type of discussion.

This is a place for USERS and OWNERS of the camera to discuss the projects they're doing with the camera, and how to get the best performance from it, and how to accessorize it or otherwise work with it to get the best they can to empower themselves to reach greater heights with whatever chosen product they use.

If the discussion is along those lines, it's welcome here. If someone finds that a particular product is not suitable for them, then -- move on, and leave the other users in peace.

apparently some rapscallions felt they could actually test the af themselves (what fools), so they began asking why their tests didn't match what Panasonic told them (because they fools who don't know how to run a resolution test like who are they the bbc or something) they were most likely part of an international technology terrorists, they pick on new products and create fake tests showing them to be inferior products with the hope of destabilizing the world great tech manufacturers to what end well they haven't really though of that.

some would say these closures is due to a financial relationship between the sites and Panasonic but that is a stretch and far to far fetched for me, it is most likely due to them realizing they have been targeted by these terrorist and have decided to resort to this in an attempt to block their terror actions, watch out any negative talk of the af could land you as a suspected terrorist and thrown into some dank prison hidden somewhere deep in the Panasonic empire.

.... sorry for that weird mood

Um I don't know but as a person who would potentially buy one as my next camera this whole ordeal had been very disconcerting, and the treatment of other potential customers no matter how rude was inappropriate to me, what is that saying the customer should always shut up and believe whatever we tell them.

zone pates here we shoot them for every camera we make

flare, yes our flares are worse under said conditions(or not) but that is a sacrifice of the cost to performance of the camera, or you have this and this set wrong.

people aren't saying it's bad they just want to know what is going on and what they will have to work around.

honesty is always the best policy especially if you want to keep those customers.

at this point I think the best move panny could make is give whatever vitally wants so he can hack it and not block it this time, and their sales will double or significantly increase.

peace to all and please lets be able to discuss all and have thick enough skin to tolerate those who are ignorant or rude. I know I may not matter but if things continue like this (or how it seems to me) I will never buy a new panasonic camera ever, I can't take being lied to or mislead.

On a positive note Alan posted this reply to our queries on DV Doctor.

"They don't need to improve the sensor in the AF101, that's just fine. They need to improve the down-scaling algorithm that generates 1920x1080 from it, and to include a decent optical low-pass filter, then it'll truly be the dog's danglers. And I assume that, if you've read my report, you'll have noticed that those are my only comments against it."

Exhibit A. A hostile response that attempts to cast financial or other aspersions on the VOLUNTEER people who run a FREE forum. Counterproductive horsecrap that helps nobody. While you're throwing stones at us, remember that this is a free forum run by volunteers -- volunteers who are not paid a penny by Panasonic to run this forum, and who are getting pretty damn sick of people saying horsecrap like this. So -- look, it's simple -- go away. Take it somewhere else, or don't, I don't care, but just don't bring it here. This is our house, our rules, if you don't like it here then GO AWAY. We are not an official Panasonic representative. We are not part of the marketing arm. We don't have customers. We don't owe anyone anything. We are a volunteer forum for people who want to participate with other users. If you don't like that -- then this isn't the place for you. Period.

For those who just can't see reason -- the thread was closed, not deleted. Everything that was going to be said, was said. We are awaiting a response from the factory on how they justify the claim of 800 lines. What more is there to say between now and then? Nothing. In the meantime, I'm not going to stand by and watch the thousands and thousands of users who are actually using this product, get buried and shouted down by a few who are complaining about a test report. The AF100 is exactly the same product today, as it was the day before the Alan Roberts report came out. Nothing has changed. And, as Gary said, Alan has generally good things to say about it.

I have asked the factory for a response. They say one is forthcoming - although I don't know when. Until then, it's pointless to continue the negativity, so -- negativity not welcome here. Bitching not welcome here. Accusations of underhandedness and insulting us -- not welcome here. Griping and moaning and lawsuiting and all that -- not welcome here.

Users who are actually using the product, and who want to share information or get help or offer help to other users -- yep, that's what we're here for. Those who appreciate that, we're glad you're here and look forward to many years of interacting with you, helping you be your best, and looking forward to you sharing your knowledge with the rest of us.

Just to focus in on and clarify a couple of points in stark, clear terms . . .

We, DVXuser.com, do not care if you are a potential customer of Panasonic's or not. We don't exist to be a customer service or marketing arm of Panasonic, nor to drive customers their way. Whether or not you base your buying decision on how we run our site is irrelevant to us.

But we, DVXuser.com, do care about civility and respect, so no, we do not have much tolerance for rudeness.
