DVFilmmaker help to get interlace into a 25p?

Our photograph just filmed accidentally interlace instead of progressive. All other material is filmed with progressive and the editing has been doing in a 25P project.
Is there any way of include some of the interlace footage into the progressive project? I have read about DVfilmaker But it doesnt says if it can handle interlace PAL into 25P. And if this would be possible which should be the workflow. I mean, capture the interlace footage and then export it to DVfilmmaker or any other program that would do the thing, and then import it to an avid 25P project?????

It sound like a laberinth . Many thanks for any comment or suggestion.

Yes, it can handle 50i footage, but this program is VERY slow. Export your video from Avid as Quick Time Movie (uncheck "use avid codec") then open this with DVFilmaker, let it re-encode (it takes forever unfortunately) and import back to Avid.
If I remember correctly, you can mix 50i and 25p in Avid...but not sure.

Very slow? In comparison to other programs of this type (like Magic Bullet), it's about 10 times faster than the others. It's not realtime, certainly, but it's a great performer, especially for the price...

You are right, Barry...I tried older trial version and got 1frame per 5sec! Now downloaded new and...nearly 10fps encoding time!
Personally I use TMGEnc to get 25p from 50i...with deinterlace filter but no option for cinegamma, but...free.

Re: DVFilmmaker help to get interlace into a 25p?

So would it be possible to mix progressive dvx100 (25p/PAL) material with material originally shot with a VX 2000, by using the dv-filmmaker program for the sony material? I'm thinking of using the Sony as a backup for quick documentary shots, when there is not enough time to set up lights etc. and in unplanned scenarios, when there can be somewhat "wild panning". Will the quick panning-movements start to "stutter" or "strobe" later on (after I use the dv-filmmaker for conversion of my interlaced sony shots)?
Any advice much appreciated here.

Re: DVFilmmaker help to get interlace into a 25p?

basically any NLE should have no problem to mix 25p and 50i footage. after all the 25p is also recorded as 50i (actually as 25i-double).

Re: DVFilmmaker help to get interlace into a 25p?

There is an EXCELLENT plugin for AE (and maybe other compositing progs/NLEs) that does deinterlacing in a very, very advanced way. Results are stunning, and its a good way to convert 50i into 25p without losing half of your resolution.

Its called RE:VisionEffects FieldsKit.

What about the speed of the revision fx field kit regarding rendering time?
On my search for possible de-interlace programs I also came across this
http://www.nattress.com/filmEffects.htm

has anyone had any experience with this one?

it seems to have more "goodies" to it than the revision fx field kit. I tried the demo version on my fcp3, dual G4 867, 1.25gRAM and it took something like 9 minutes to render a 9 second clip. Pretty long...
Speedwise how much faster are g5's in that respect. twice as fast three-times? I guess it's probably time for a massive hardware update again.

Re: DVFilmmaker help to get interlace into a 25p?

Twixtor has a plug-in that can do this and I believe that Boris has a filter as well. V.4.5 of Xpress Pro will have a progressive to interlace and interlace to progressive preset using the Timewarp engine which looks really good.

You can edit 25i in a 25p project, and 25p in a 25i project - the difference will be how renders are performed on effects that have edges - wipes, PIP, etc. Progressive will show movement (if keyframes are applied) as 1/25th whereas an interlace project will render the moves as 1/50th.
