DVFilm Maker for HVX200

I think someone scooped me but here is the official notice.

DVFilm Maker 2.21 will feature support for the
Panasonic HVX200. The camera will shoot
1920 x 1080, 24P and record to an .mxf file
on a P2 card, with a 2:3:3:2 pulldown, in
1080i format.

Maker will remove the pulldown without
recompression and convert the clip into
a 24P quicktime with Avid DV100 codec,
which is a free codec available to everyone,
or recompress to Cineform AVI (which is not
free), in either case suitable for editing on
almost any Windows-based editing system.
like Premiere or Vegas.

There is more information here

Superb! With this tool, you should be able to edit with Premiere Pro or Vegas immediately upon the camera's release, whether the software manufacturers provide support or not!*

(for those who don't know, Marcus van Bavel's DVFilm Maker let people edit 24p footage on Premiere 6.0, long before Adobe gave Premiere official 24p support).

Thanks for looking out for us, the users! :)

* (editing DVCPRO-HD in Vegas, through the Avid Quicktime codec, would require an AWFULLY fast PC though... I've tried it, and get about 2 frames per second. Native support from Vegas would presumably make it real-time.)

Even it is 720p?
On my powerbook, I tried the panasonic footage that came with FCP HD, and it works fine. But for 1080i, it is just slow.

I don't have any 720p sample footage... and I can't test now, looks like QT7 killed my ability to use the Avid codec... grrr...

..supposedly PPRO has already unofficially said they will have naitive support, but its nice to hear we'll have have something to fall back on since "unofficial announcements" have a way of being well.. unofficial.

I would really recommend recompressing to Cineform with Maker
rather that try to edit with the Avid DV100 codec in Vegas or Premiere.
There's something like a 10x improvement in playback performance.
