DVDSP not recognizing MPEG2 from Compressor

Hi, so im authoring my first HD DVD. I edited in FCP6 with a 1080/60i timeline, exported to compressor and used the HD DVD 30min settings, submitted that and let it do its thing, when it was done i opend DVD Studio Pro and tried to import my two files, Audio and Video(MPEG-2) and the audio imported just fine but DVDSP told me that it didnt support the file type for the MPEG-2 file. I cant get my video file into DVD Studio Pro. I've done this a million times in SD 24p, but never in HD 1080/60i... is DVDSP not recognizing some codec? whats the deal? What do i need to change in compressor to make the file readable for DVDSP?

Anyone have any insight for me?

Thanks, :dankk2:

Chris

DVD Studio Pro can author HD DVDs that play on some Macs and some Toshiba HD DVD set top boxes.

The latter aren't sold anymore.

If you intend to author a HD DVD for red laser dye burning, make certain that you have a Toshiba to pkay it on and you've chosen the HD set up in DVD SP.

David...you lost me. I guess im in a whole new arena with HD rather than SD, I've been shooting and authoring SD 24p DVD for a long time and the HD seems to have a steeper learning curve than i thought.

"red laser dye burning" not familiar with this. probably just something normal but ive just not heard/used the term before?

Maybe you can clarify for me... I want to shoot with my HPX170 in 1080/60i or 720/60p and end up with an HD DVD. are there issues with this? Should i just be outputting to regular DVD in compressor and not HD DVD? way too many more ?'s to ask

I would LOVE to take some real courses involving the entire FCS, any suggesetions?

Thanks again

Red laser dye discs are standard DVDs.

HD DVD is a special term that relates to what Toshiba marketed to compete with blu ray. Blu ray won, and now the only option to create a blu ray disc.

DVD SP cannot author a blu ray disc. If you have a blu ray burn and Toast 9/10, Encore CS3 or CS4, or FCS3, then you can author a blu ray disc.

Does that help?

Yea, sorry, im throwing around terms meaning something other than what im saying. By "HD DVD" i just mean that i shot in 1080/60i DVCPROHD instead of my usual DV 24p. and i want to output to a DVD. When i was finished with my edit in FCP6(im running FCS2) i esported to compressor and at first i selected to option DVD Best 60min, what i usually use, then scrolling down i noticed "HD DVD 30min" so i thought, hey i shot in HD i should use this instead of just the DVD Best selection. Am i wrong in thinking that?

The other thing im trying to get my head around is why when i used the HD DVD settings in compressor, why wouldn't DVD Studio Pro be able to recognize that? i mean, it all comes in the suite so shouldn't it all work together?

The HD DVD presets are meant for HD-DVDs as David described in his earlier posts. Unless you want a disc that will only be playable on a Mac and will not play in regular DVD players that's not the setting you want. Instead your footage will be downconverted by Compressor to a standard definition MPEG-2. Try again with the regular DVD best 60 minutes setting and you'll be fine. You can spend the time reading through the manual on the HD-DVD format if you're really interested or just trust me and stick with regular DVDs.
