DVD Studio Pro questions

Hey Everybody,

I got some urgent DVD STP questions. First one is; I exported a project with chapter markers and imported it in DVD Studio Pro. I made buttons in the menu to link with the each chapter mark in the project. Is there a way to only play this part of the chapter mark and that (at the end) it returns to the menu highlighting the next button. Because now it plays the intended chapter mark but in the end it will play the next chapter, but I want it to return to the menu and highlight the next button. Just like when you make separate tracks and say that in the end it should return to the menu and a button of your choice.

Next to that another question regarding the imported project with chapter markers. Is there a way that you can make a selecting. For example if the project is made out of 10 chapters, that you make a selection where you want to play the second chapter + the eight chapter.

Hope someone can help, because making separate tracks with different selections is not an option because it will succeed the 4,7 GB on a DVD.

Happy New Year for everybody on the forum!

Niels

Are you using QT files or did you use compressor to bring them into DVDSTP? I ask because I had a similar problem and What I had to do was convert the files using compressor or MPEG Stream Clip (Much Faster) to make them small enough not to go over the limit. Using the standard QT files made the individual parts much too large and it exceeded the 4.7 limit. I could not figure this out either.

Hey Richard, I already used compressor for it, but it's a big project. All and all about 2 GB out of Compressor. The thing is that all the footage I need is in this 2 GB, the only problem is that I want the option for selecting the chapters in different order. If I make new tracks from every piece (chapter) of the project, then I go over this 4,7 limit.

But thanks for the answer!

I don't know how to do it yet, but I'm pretty sure the functions you want require using the scripting feature. I've wanted to do this, but it's pretty advanced, much like programming... ie "if user clicks this and this, then do this and this and go back to menu 1 after play..." I could be way off, but hopefully someone here will know. :)

Just thought of another possibility. You can try using the same asset but cut it up in separate tracks and 'edit it' to your liking, so-to speak, so that only one scene is on each track, which would allow you to easily have it end and set the end jump back to the next button in the menu.
Would this work? I'm not around my computer to test it, but it just might...?

EDIT: Just to clarify- you wouldn't export the separate scenes from compressor, you would edit the same asset, (which is your whole movie) in the dvdsp timeline. Make sense?

Have you used the connections tab to set the action at the end of the track? I don't know if you can determine which button will be highlighted, but you can specify the element of your project that will come up at the end of the track. If you are not familiar with this aspect of the program, it is described in some detail in the DVD SP user manual.

Hey Tim and Kevin, thanks for advice! I've solved the first problem with the end jump of a chapter mark with your advice Kevin. In the connection tab you can see the chapter marker and you can set the target to a place you like. I simply select the next button as the target in the end jump, and there you go.

Still looking at the editing in DVD STP like you said Tim, for the different selections of chapters.

Cheers

I am not sure how I use the same asset in separate tracks. It has to refer to the same asset every time, even though it's a separate track, to not add to the GB's on the DVD.
