DVD STUDIO PRO compatibility with drive???

Hi guys,

I know this isn't strictly FCP but wasn't really sure where to put it, could really do with some help on this one please.

I think my internal DVD/CD writer drive on my imac G5 (power PC) is knackered.
It will burn and play cd's it will also most of the time burn DVD's, but it won't play back any burnt dvd's or filmsdvd's.

I've searched the net and some peeps have suggested getting an external DVD/CD writer drive, BUT I have read that other people when using DVD Studio pro with external drives found that DVDSP wouldn't recognize the drives.
Could anyone suggest a drive that is compatible with DVDSP.

Also does anyone know if I were to get the internal one replaced if it is a huge bill, I read some where that apple were going to charge $600 for replacing a drive, which just sounds silly???

External DVD burners now don't have much of an issue with DVD SP.

If you have v. 4.x, then just about anything from macsales.com will work

Hi David thanks for your reply. I am running 4, however I was thinking that it might be advisable to replace the internal drive rather than get an external drive. I have found one about £120 and apparently I can fit it all myself???
