DVD MPEG to DV AVI/AVI/MOV problem.

I'm having troubles converting from DVD formatted mpg (filename.mpg) to DV AVI or any other format without the rendered new file being very choppy. It's a continuous and perfectly steady choppy intervals.

I deleted my original DV rendered file of the wedding highlights after converting to a DVD mpeg version so I can't convert it to DV AVI to MOV for web output. :( it's all choppy.......

Any ideas of what to do? Never experienced this before and I tried many times and still the same thing. Is DVD mpg not convertible to normal video files without being choppy now?

HELP NEEDED!

Re: DVD MPEG to DV AVI/AVI/MOV problem.

there is always analog out, and recaputure via analog inputs ..
are you rerendering in premiere/vegas/fcp?
anyway , my thought is that the converted file is just skipping alot (if not all) of the the non concrete (guessed)frames in the mpg stream.  not sure why yet, but need more info.

Re: DVD MPEG to DV AVI/AVI/MOV problem.

I rendering in Premiere and it won't let me import the file in Vegas unless I have some plug-in or something which I can't find.

I wish I knew how to do this!!! I'd like to place this demo in quicktime format on my website soon.

Re: DVD MPEG to DV AVI/AVI/MOV problem.

premier is pretty straightforward as you know when it comes to file conversion.. import the mpg file. and then export the timeline to whatever new filetype/codec your looking for. if its not working properly, theres not much else the program has in terms of options to correct it. only thing i can think of is trying to set the "recompress" radio button in the project settings if its not set already. usually of course this is a bad thing, but for mpg conversion, you want to make sure that the program is rerendering a new file based on the mpg stream.(cause mpg files dont actually contain all the frames.. they just have certain frames, and guess the frames inbetween, thats why mpg editing is bunk for the most part) if that dosent work i would just run analog. the size of the web video is small enough where any analog noise gained is virtually completely unnoticeable anyway.

You can also try FlaskMPEG or one of it's variants for good MPEG/VOB to .AVI conversions.
