DVD import to Premiere Pro CS3.0

Hi!

The topic says it all. Have I missed something: we are living in 2008, and there is no way to import DVD video into PP3?

I keep searching, but SURELY someone on this forum can show me some piece of software that makes this import possible (without being a master programmer or having a secret fetish for 12+ hour computer fiddling days)

Sorry for the aggressive post, but I KNOW that the RIAA and MIAA and all those other institutions are aware that destroying DVD-copy programs won't make more money for them (and quite the opposite might ruin people's confidence in DVDs and other rightfully purchased material).

Sorry for that last part, I just had to get it off my chest. You're of course welcome to disagree, but please answer my first question at the same time :)

Thanks in advance!

OMG I feel so silly :)

Why didn't anyone tell me that it's just a matter of renaming .VOB and other DVD files to .MPG and Premiere Pro edits them graciously? Oh well... Guess it's common knowledge. Sorry if I offended anyone in the process btw :)

OK the sound disappeared in the file conversion. This thread looks like it's turned into a blog :) I'll keep you updated when I find a fabulously easy way to import that too.

If you have any sort of analog conversion deck, you can just plug up any DVD player into the analog conversion and capture your DVD/HDV and then re-import that.

That's the easiest way without sitting in front of your computer for 12 hours, and the quailty is good enough for SD broadcast.

OK in the end I used an old workhorse: DVD2AVI v1.77.4 (the free one). And made the AC3 into WAV. Also: I got WMV encoding from TMPEGENC to work and it all imported nicely into PPro.

Though I would've loved an easier path with fewer recompressions, I guess the industry has screwed us once and for all.

Hope someone find this interesting.

PS: Thanks Alexander for the tip! I'm getting a A/D video converter as soon as possible! I can't take this fiddling around anymore :)

I agree fully with this assessment.

An import tool (that still recognized and respected copy-protection) is LONG over due in Premiere.
