DVD Duplication

i'm having some issues squeezing more than 4 hours of footage on the DVD-9's that i am replicating with Discmakers.
We're encoding in NTSC/30fps and i've gone over by only a few minutes. what can i do to squeeze those last few minutes onto the DVD-DL?

Sam - to help, we need to know a lot more about what software you're using, what compression settings, etc. Basically, if you are very close to the limit, just keep trying to re-encode with a slightly lower bitrate...

We're using Final Cut Pro. i'm not doing the editing myself. im just producing/directing this. i know that when you encode in NTSC/30 fps the program will automatically choose the best settings for you. but i dont know what those settings are.

Use Compressor, use the highest quality dvd output and then tweak the bitrate until your total size is able to fit on a DVD DL. Are you sure that Discmakers is able to duplicate from a DVD DL? I have had some trouble with duplication houses doing DL's in the past. You might want to let them know, if you already haven't, that you are sending them a DL.

Not quite - it chooses from a small number (3, I think) of stock settings. You can do a lot better by using Compressor and tweaking the settings.

i'm seriously having a hard time with this. i have one recipe (for this DVD called "Everyday Kosher Cooking" ) and although it's only 16 minutes - on disc it is 1.1 GB!!!
how is it possible to squeeze 240 minutes of high quality video on a DVD-DL when 16 minutes is 1.1GB ???

how do movie makers do it without losing quality?

WHY do you have to squeeze 240 mins of video on 1 DVD DL, why not do 2 DVD's?

Are you using Compressor? You need to batch compress all of your edits to compressor and use the best quality dvd settings. you can view the file sizes before you compress. If you need to do some tweaks, go ahead a mess with the bitrates.
