DVD burning

Hey guys

I'm burning a 6 minute montage video for my portfolio for university and have just now decided to ask something that ive been wondering for a while

How bloody long does it take for it to "transcode" and stuff

i have liteerally left my computer running for 2 hours finally to come back and have it finished. Why does it take so long? Should it take a while even for 5 mins of footage? Reason for this? How can i make it faster? Or is it something i just have to get used to.

It depends on a lot of things.

It depends on your hardware (processor, etc.).

It depends on your software (NLE? Dedicated transcoding software?)

It depends on what you're doing. Are you just transcoding? From what to what? DV to MPEG? HD to MPEG? Stills? Windows Media? Are you rendering effects (like transitions) at the same time as transcoding? Do you have a lot of effects?

Are you factoring in transcoding AND burning time? What kind of DVD media are you using? What burner?

And a dozen more questions.

hmm. kk well im running a
AMD Athlon 2500

1.83 GHz
768 mb ram

with a R9800 Pro 128mb Card

All my footage is already rendered so its not doing any more.

All i did was go to export to DVD, chose my option ( dont remember which one but its one of the 4x3 high quality options.

and my DVD burner is a LG Super Multi shiz

But i think its just the transcording that takes ages. What would make this faster? CPU or Ram mainly? ( i know they both do ) but what makes the more immediate affect?

CPU, most definitely. You've got some older hardware there, so an upgrade will definitely deliver some benefit for you.

Video card has nothing to do with it.

And also make sure you've disabled any other software, especially anything that runs invisibly in the background (virus protection, etc.).

disable software? Yeah? kk will do
and im using premier pro's export to dvd to burn my dvds.
