DVD Burn - Jumpy Footage on TV

Bag of Douche
I recently burned a few DVDs of a 60i based project I just finished. The problem is that it plays fine on a PC or MAC when in the DVD drive, but when its on a TV it is just freakishly jumpy, almost as if it's trying to be progressive but just can't handle the fact that it isn't.

Anybody know about this problem? I used Toast to burn the DVD, btw.

Re: DVD Burn - Jumpy Footage on TV

What was your bitrate setting? If it was too high, that can mess with set top DVD players.

Re: DVD Burn - Jumpy Footage on TV

Well I wasn't the one doing the burnign per-say, so what would a good bitrate setting be?

Re: DVD Burn - Jumpy Footage on TV

10 minutes of footage, weighing in at about 2.4 gigs

Re: DVD Burn - Jumpy Footage on TV

Normally you want to keep the bitrate below 8 Mbps, but that will depend on the DVD player. I've had to drop it below that on several occasions to get stuff to play right on my players.

Re: DVD Burn - Jumpy Footage on TV

I would guess that your bit rate was too high. At a vbr setting of average 7.5 with a high of 8, 60 minutes would be around 3 gigs. You have 10 minutes at 2.4 gigs. With MPEG compression you get diminishing return above 8 bits. If you're using compressor the 60 min high quality preset will look great for most things under an hour in lenght.

Holy cow! Ten minutes at 2.4 gigs? Your DVD player is probably petitioning OSHA right about now . . . :o

Re: DVD Burn - Jumpy Footage on TV

Hmm, I probably should've compressed at MPEG-2 Huh? :)
