DVD audio drift

not sure where i should post this but I shot with an HVX so I am posting here.

The dvds I output are having audio drift where it loses sync over time.

I am editing in avid in a 48Khz project. Then I output with the avid HD codec with 48KHz audio. Then I encode using tmpgenc at 48Khz. Finally I use tmpdvd to write the dvd - but I still get audio drift,

Any ideas why - all the sample rates seem to match up

thanks for any help or suggestions

I can check that but I dont think that would be the issue. Avid would conform the audio based on project settings. And the video plays in sync in the avid timeline

If you are exporting out from avid as a quicktime ref file, make sure there is no space in the timeline at the end of your timeline, either on the video or audio because this will make your audio go out of sync on your dvd's.

QT reference files are not working properly at this point with tmpgenc - I get out of storage errors (even though there is plenty of drive space).

SO I have to use QT movies - but perhaps there is a similar issue so i will check

the thing is its nto a sync issue - its a drift issue - as if the rates were mismatched

Ok, I don't use tmpgenc anymore (too buggy) so not really sure. I use mainconcept to encode and encore to make dvd's. Sounds to me like it might be tmpgenc causing the issue.

pmpworks - is mainconcept a good tool - does it normally seem to get the audio in sync properly - I am deciding between trying a new encoding tool or using videoredo to rewrite the time sync data

I have used it for a few years now with no problems. It's the same encoder adobe uses for Encore DVD and I believe also Premiere Pro. I know it was used in Premiere 6.5, and it worked great then. But I just got Procoder and have found it to be the only encoder I have to work with the Quicktime Ref files from Avid when working with MXF 720p High Def footage, all the others only show a blank screen (including Quicktime Pro) or a white screen. Procoder opens up the file and you can see it before rendering. I believe Procoder uses Sorenson Squeeze for DVD and it seems to work great, also seems a little faster than Mainconcept. I'll still use mainconcept for my SD footage, but will use Procoder for HD. Keep in mind that my encoder is older and a newer mainconcept my work with HD 720p QTRef from avid, so you should really check them out if you will be doing HD.
