Dvcprohd not as processor heavy as HDV- so RT preview possible?

I've been reading the posts latelly, specially on the Thread about the capture cards, and I got the Idea that w can have realtime editing and monitoring with dvcpro hd compared to the "print to video"only HDV. Is that true? More so, I've got a 1080i ready 34" toshiba tv with component inputs. Could I use that has a HVX monitor? And basically, can I keep my current workflow only changing the camera (dvx for hvx) and the tv (Sony PVM14 to toshiba)?

Yes, that's the plan. Since DVCPRO-HD is based at its core on the same DV type of compression, you should indeed be able to swap out your DV camera and instead plug in your HVX, and plug that into your television.

I believe they have that workflow already working with FCP-HD and the AJ-HD1200A deck.

Remains to be seen if the functionality is actually included in the HVX, but it seems like it should work...

Barry, you've seen the mockup, right? Does it have a 3 cable standard component out? (like the dvx had the yellow, white and red composite outs/in?)

In a more personal note, are you going to personally work with a HD "consumer" monitor (like my proposed Toshiba crt TV), or are you going for either a pro HD monitor or even the Decklink/ Kona2 realtime conversion to sd ?(to use a professional sd monitor?). I'm asking this because the price for a pro HD monitor is out of this world...

P.S Jan, are you there? can you confirm this firewire workflow?

For the most part I'd planned on using HD/HDV Rack on a new hyper-powerful laptop with a 17" WUXGA screen. That way you get full-resolution field monitoring, perpetual "free" capture, waveform & vectorscope, etc.

I'm planning to use a laptop, too. I purchased the Mac Powerbook 17" 1.65 just a couple of months ago. I'm really quite upset with the pccmia incompatibility thing. More so with Panasonic's official word being: "It's a Mac problem", and not trying to fix it. I mean, this is not a problem with the drive itself but by a driver, isn't it? How hard would it be to fix it? And wouldn't it be a lot more conforting if they stated that this particular problem was solved to us mac users? I mean a big part of the audiovisual content industry uses Macs... (That's my perception, at least...)

I'm really feeling for the SDX 800 users with mac laptops.

Even tough we can still dump the files trough firewire by the camera, the fact that the camera has to be stopped in comparison to a windows based workflow really is upsetting (specially with the NAB joint P2 demonstration and all...)

PS- I did hear about the linux driver workaround, but I'm not sure how this works and how it can mess up with my OSX environment...

Would someone please be a little more specific about this P2 Card / Mac problem?
It was my knowledge until now I can put a P2 card into my Powerbook's cardbus slot and it would pop up on the Finder for copying the content onto the HD. At least this was the workflow always laid out as being simple and straightforward.

If things are different, why is that so? I am visiting Apple computer at IBC and will be glad to adress the issue. However, some more details might be helpful for a successful discussion.

Apparently inserting the P2 card on Mac laptops's cardbus doesn't work. Panasonic says it is an "Apple problem". There's a workaround with a linux driver, but no reports on what it does to your system.

Please tell apple and panasonic that there'll be very upset powerbook owners out there if this doesn't change, or else there could be riots :)!
