dvcpro50

Hello,
I’m asking myself the following question regarding dvcpro50 on hvx200:
If I understand well, with dvc50, the field of vision is different from 1080 or 720, because dvc50 operates in 4:3 for a 32.5 mm (ref 35 mm), whereas 1080 and 720 operate in 16:9 for a 32.5 mm.

Is the field of vision in dv50 at least equal to dvx100a’s?
Do you make a ‘false’ 16:9 with Letterbox or with Squezz

It would really be nice if you could answer this question.

Thanks in advance.

Field of view is soignificantly less wide than DVX100 in 4:3 because the lens in now scanning a 16:9 chip & using the center only. This is a bit of a drag but predictable - its the same with all native 16:9 cameras.
trade off is that 16:9 is way better because you now are using a eal 16:9 chip with many more pixels in stead of squeesing or letterboxing a 4:3 chip.

You can have it both ways. You can have the exact same field of view if you shoot it in 16:9, or you can choose to shoot 4:3, which makes for a narrower field of view.

In 16:9 mode (whether DV50, DV100 or DV) the field of view is noticeably wider on the HVX than it is on the DVX100A.

On the HVX200, "Squeeze" is REAL 16:9. It's confusing to those who are familiar with the DVX, but on the HVX "squeeze" is real, genuine, native widescren 16:9. You also have the choice of letterbox or 4:3.

Squeeze is not really well labelled on the HVX. It took us a few minutes to realize that meant True 16:9 .
Re: Field of view- Horizontally it is roughly the same as the DVX 100 and actually a little wider because the lense is 4.2 as opposed to 4.5 on 100A.
Vertically it is not as wide since that is a 16:9 picture. When you go 4:3 you cut off the sides of the picture so now you are neither as wide or tall.
I roughly guess that it is equivilent to about a 5:5 on the DVX100 in 4:3, but that's just some #'s I thought about last night in bed. I may be way off.
Probably closer to the Sonys (PD150 etc) without a wider angle adapter.
I think you will want to get a wide angle adapter for 4:3 work.

Just to be pedantic... I think squeeze IS well labeled on the HVX; it was just badly labeled on the DVX. DVX is really stretching vertically to fit a 4:3 frame; while the HVX is squeezing horizontally to fit the 4:3 frame...

I wish they would have dropped the "squeeze" word entirely, and labeled it "widescreen" on the HVX. Could forestall some confusion. But, alas...
