DVCPRO50 on an HVX vs. SDX

Can anyone give a technical explanation on how 50mbps can be recorded on 1/3" chip camera like the HVX and a 2/3" chip camera such as the SDX 900? Does the 1/3" require more compression? Are they both 4:2:2 colorspace? Are the benefits of a 2/3" chip camera at PRO50 just lower DOF, better lens, higher sensitivity?

Thank you,

Shawn Emery

The chip size has nothing to do with the recording format.

DVCpro50 is 720x480 at 4:2:2.

Form factor aside, larger chips most of the time give you better sensitivity, more dynamic range, and because of their size, dictate the use of longer focal length lenses, resulting of shallower DoF.
