dvcpro hd previewing while editing

has it been confirmed that there is no real time preview via component through a firewire stream(such as w/ dv)? if not, is the cheapest solution to purchase a card w/ component out or hd-sdi out such as the decklink hd pro(w/ hdlink) and kona solutions? ie: is a video card a must for previewing while editing w/ dvcprohd footage? thanks.

Yes that is confirmed. It can stream back to the camera and preview on the camera's LCD, but component outputs don't work when inputting firewire.

Well, there is "Digital Cinema Desktop Preview" which lets you use any computer display as a video monitor... so if you have a dual-connector video card (As all G5s do, at least) you can work that way for just the cost of a computer display. However, there are of course some trdeoffs vs. decicated video monitors. But this may meet your criteria of "cheapest"... especially for full-res!

Since many HDTVs have computer inputs you can also use those in the same way.. but I've not gotten a sense of closure on the issues of how this would compare to using a kona to the same device via component...

thanks ullanta...didn't want to go that route for the reasons mentioned...i got the decklink hd pro card and am looking to go most likely w/ a sony pvm-14L5. from what i hear from varicam users, this is a great way to go.
