DVCPro HD Pixel Size Confusion

I found some footage I shot first with my HVX 200. In Final Cut Item Properties it says 1080p30 and sometimes 1080i60.
But in every case it says 1280x1080.
When I export from FCP all I can find is 1920x1080.
If I choose that, it will upsize the clip and make it quite soft.
I don't know, what would be the best setting in FCP for export.
I remember, when I shot in 720p, the actual size is 960x720, but then it upsizes it to 1280x720.
Is this the same in 1080i and 1080p?
But then, in the export tab, I choose DVCPro HD 1080p (or i) and when I play the clip in Quick Time, in the Inspector Window it says:DVCPRO HD1080p 1280x1080 (1888x1062) , Current Size : 1888x1062 Pixels (Actual).

I am totally confused now.....

DVCPRO HD doesn't use square pixels. It uses rectangular pixels: so 720p DVCPRO HD is actually 960x720 rectangular pixels. 1080p/i DVCPRO HD is actually 1280x1080 rectangular pixels. You could make it square pixels using Apple Compressor or After Effects: just force it to stretch the image by forcing 1920x1080 or 1280x720 at square pixels. Sometimes you can notice the difference in resolution, but most of the time its ok.

thanks Joe, somehow makes sense.
But in order to get max quality, I would not like to blow the clips up too much.

You shot your footage for 720p, then manually stretch to 1280x720 using Compressor, and set the Frame Tools to Best Quality on all settings. Do the same if you shot 1080p, except choose the resolution for 1080.

yes, that is clear.
I shot the footage in 1080p.
I set the pixel size to 1080p-also clear, but not clear is the horizontal pixel size.......
1080 x 1440 or 1080x 1920 to give the best quality
