dvcpro hd macroblocking?

Hey all. I'm having some problems here. Maybe this is normal. But I've exported uncompressed movies, and looked on three different computers.

I'm filming a scene of a short in a room with only two lights, so it's extremely low light. I was expecting plenty of noise, etc. But I was under the impression that DVCPRO HD does not artifact very much: maybe I'm wrong, but does this look right to anyone? I'm sorry if this is noob-ish, but I've filmed in low light in the same room before without the macroblocking. Ironically the shots without macroblocking were 720p footage.

My concern is the macroblocking in the reds. This was shot 1080pa:

Dude get onto this!

http://www.neatvideo.com/ It's very effective for macro blocking and noise in general. I also have a HVX and use this badboy for quite a bit of work. It's great when keying hair and when in low light situations. You can also bring in sharpening when required with neat.

Ben

Thanks for the tip. I wanted to use Neat Video, but it's not out for mac yet. I think it will be sometime this year.

Anyway, in the meantime I found that using cinelike-d with higher detail seems to smooth the macro blocks on solid colors or moreso, on gradients. I don't mind the grain that comes with it. I'd rather have a grainy image without digital artifacts than a clean image with... you get the point.

It seems like this little cam always has surprises in store. I need to spend more time with it, more tests. And then finally do a project.

Damn that sucks. No neat for MAC! I shoot with Cine D most of the time aswell. I've been drooling over the new features of the HPX170 but realise the HVX is more than enough for me at the moment.

Regards,

Ben
